Can you recommend me a cider?
The ones I usually try are either sickly sweet, or are really nice but contain too much alcohol. I'd like to find a cider which is quite dry but is around 4-5% abv. Anyone got any favourites that might fit the bill? Cheers in advance!

I've also gotten more into cider recently but i'm not a fan or Magners/Bulmers and I haven't had Strongbow or Woodpecker for around 10 years.
Do you want artisan stuff or 2l bottles? Asda and Tesco have 3 for £4 deals on bottles of cider. Most are 500ml and around 6-7% Old Rosie is good if you can find it and the Westons range is ok. I'm still just going through the offers. http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/Shopp...cider&SortBy=3 I did get a bottle of Old English just to get if the bottles ran out and it was quite nice, although i'd had a few by that point.

If you want between 4% and 5% vol then I'd go for Olde English out of a bottle. It's available just about everywhere.
http://www.creativematch.co.uk/Image...English165.jpg Personally I like Weston's Vintage, Thatchers Vintage or Henney's Vintage but they're all over 6% vol and Westons is 8.2% ! |

You could try Aspall cyder. My very favourite! http://dev.aspall.co.uk/products/cyd...ht-3-6-11.html
The draught is 5.5%, but the blush is 5.4% and fantastic! Organic and Dry are both slightly stronger, at 7% |

I really like the Thatcher's single variety one. The Katy apple is nice, but the Cox's is my favourite.

Avoid Blacktho9rd, Strongbow, Magners and Bullmers like the plague is my advice when it comes to cider. Kopperburg is lovely, although some may find it too sweet. Sainsburys and Waitrose both have some really nice proper cider and perry on sale.

Does pear cider = perry, or is it something different?

Kopparberg Pear Cider is nice and light, a good drink for the warm evenings! I think Magners now do a pear variety too.

I like the Frome Valley one - say it on good food live agees ago. Theres a dry one and a sweet one and I like the dry one.
My OH love the SHeppeys ciders - esp the taylors gold (i fond it a bit sweet). Not sure of percentages of whatever but they are lovely. |

It's exactly the same thing. The manufacturers have just changed the name to try and cash in on the popularity of Cider over the past few years.
Personally I find it too sweet. Pear cider is a mix of apple & pear. There are not enough pears to go around for mass produced perry (in the same quantity as cider). Try to catch Oz & James Drink To Britain. There is an episode/segment dedicated to it. |

Kopparburg.... they have pear, summer fruit, winter fruit, elderberry and lime flavours - absolutely delicious and perfect with ice to enjoy in this hot weather!

It's worth noting that you very rarely see cider above 8.3% because above that it is taxed as wine, making it much more expensive to distribute. Most of the stronger ciders are in fact watered down to keep the tax down.
