Now I realise that this question has probably been done to death already but I think it's always one worth asking. What is your favourite ever episode of "New Who"?

Well for me I always thought The quality of writing peaked in Season 3 and it gaves us some pretty special stories ones that i'll always remember. I find it hard to choose between "Blink" and "Human Nature/Family of Blood"

But i'm gonna go for the latter because for me it's just a wonderful fresh and different story. I love the different angle it went for. The Doctor didn't even appear for much of the two parter. He was literally a completely different person and I loved John Smiths emotional struggle, Do I stay and live a life as a human being or open the watch to become a lonely alien wanderer?.

The second parter wrapped up the story really well and is my favourite of the two. David Tennant proves himself as the greatest actor in the history of Doctor Who as the troubled John Smith and his minor cameo appears as The Doctor as he leaves you guessing as to whether he has really changed back or whether he's tricked the Family. But to be honest there were so many great performances by everybody.

I simply love his performance at the end with his joke about "ventriloquism of the nose".

For portrayal of the harsh realities of World War 1 discipline, a poignant contrasts of young and old Tim, especially knowing what that Fob Watch meant to him.

Love and Monsters - no, seriously. I know a LOT of people hated it but I just love the episode: Funny, unusual and a very brave episode to make. To even things out I suppose I could mention Blink as well. But that's all it gets - a mention.

Midnight IS a great episode but no way the best ever. Series 1 had some brilliant episodes - Dalek, Father's Day, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, The Parting of the Ways. Then you've got contenders in series 2 like The Girl In The Fireplace (I know that's some people's favourite), The Impossible Planet and the overblown Doomsday. Series 3 - Smith & Jones, Gridlock, Human Nature/Family of Blood, Blink, Utopia. Series 4 - er...the Pompeii one wasn't bad...and Silence In The Library, Turn Left and the ace, if insane, Journey's End finale.

The VERY BEST episode for me is a toss-up between The Impossible Planet, The Doctor Dances, Father's Day and Blink. And The Parting of the Ways!

There's a few very good ones, but I honestly think Blink is the best ever. The Weeping Angels were such a tremendously effective monster (a case of "less is more"), Sally Sparrow was a terrific one-off character brilliantly played by Carey Mulligan, and the Doctor, although not present much, plays a pivotal role.

The wonderful Midnight -the Doctor would have died -he was helpless and beaten not one thing he could do-saved noone..never got to be the clever timelord.I liked that new experience RTD exploring the fragility of the Doctor brilliant episode imo .Second the wonderful human Nature/Family of blood story -again taking the Doctor to new experiences as John Smith fell for Joan and Ten tried to learn from him ..and a fab foe in the Family -loved it.

I can't possibly pick as my choice really varies from day to day-depending on my mood.
I like them all in their own ways, but if I had to pick an episode to watch right now I'd probably pick Dalek. I do love CE in that.
But tomorrow I'd probably pick something different.

This is a tough one. Difficult to pin down one actual story, but my top 5 are The Empty Child, Father's Day, Human Nature, School Reunion and The Girl In The Fireplace. And that leaves out tales such as Bad Wolf and Stolen Earth and Doomsday, etc. It just goes to show what quality they are producing. If pushed I'd go for The Empty Child.

Well despite your plea not to have Midnight accepted as an answer....I will say Midnight.......because for me it is....the best of the best....the only episode to still creep me out no matter how many times I have seen it. The fact that the biggest Monster is not even the unknown entity, but the humans themselves....and the world that we are ourselfs are surrounded in....there is no better proof of that...the fact that we are all capable of those things, if fear and mistrust takes over us.....
Apart from that, it also manages to a lot more than most CGI ridden episodes are unable to do.....the acting is sensational....
The lack of Donna in episode, yet she is very much felt....
And so so much more....I could write a blooming dissertation on it


Oh and the snakes on a plane comparison.....well you really need to watch the movie again....and maybe you will see that there isn't actually anything much similar in it, accept the fact that there are passangers.....and if you still want to prove me wrong....well then please do.....but the plot summary to SOAP seems to suggest otherwise.....

Turn Left is just sublime, and by far my favourite episode ... and I think a strong contender for the title of Best Ever.

Dalek is possibly my second favourite. Beautiful.

I would have to say Dalek, Rise of the Cybermen, The Sound of Drums, Midnight and The Stolen Earth are my favourites. I feel that if we weren't given a preview snippet for The Stolen Earth at the end of Turn Left, I feel it would have been probably the best episode since the new Who resurrection. The Dalek invasion, the companion reunion, the return of Davros AND a near regeneration; can you imagine if we didn't know a thing about this before it aired?!

Well the near regeneration caught me completely by surprise not that I ever thought David Tennant was quitting the show. It was just so wonderfully clever because you always entertained the possibility that we were getting a new Doctor and most of his old companions were there to see it.

Looking back, I think it might have been better if Doc 10 did regenerate at that point. It would have been a wonderful way to see him off. Doc 11 could then have fought off the Daleks the way he did in Journeys End. That way we might also have had a credible reason to Ditch Rose back to Bad Wolf Bay. I still think that Rose could and should have stayed in her own universe. Rose never wanted to go there and I personally would not have stood to be left there like bad rubbish a second time having made all that effort to get back home.

Furthermore the specials would have been a great way to introduce Doc 11 before the normal 13 episode run.

Rose. Every now and then I put it on again to relive the thrill of seeing it ushering in the new era of Who. Then the fortnight a couple of years later with Human Nature and Family of Blood followed by the brilliant Blink was an amazing sequence. And Doomsday makes me cry. And lots of other episodes were rather fantastic in so many ways ....

This makes me quite sad, to remember that Rose was first broadcast over 4 years ago, and to think that so much has changed in my life but DW is so constant (and brilliant!).

Yes ... Doctor Who, while having the capacity to scare and thrill, is so wonderful in that it can tap into all emotions and make wonderful dramatic and heartbreaking episodes/scenes. The sheer versatility of the show is what makes it so, so special

I agree with the OP that series 3 really is the peak for great stories. I don't think there is one story I don't like in series 3. For me series 4 comes nowhere near.

Human Nature/Family of Blood are my favourites. VEry new idea, but extremely classic Doctor Who.

I agree, EXCEPT my problem with S3 is that Martha was companion- and great as she was, she couldn't live up to Rose for me. I find Blink rather overated, as do I with Human Nature- Family of Blood is better. Shakespeare Code, Smith and Jones and Sound of Drums are the best three of S3 for me
