LOL - I agree plug
My personal story as to why I feel this way (brief):
I was in the 'elite' academically at school and predicted 3 A's and a B at A-level (no course work then, that would have been a breeze).
I had a place at medical school.
In the lower 6th, I discovered boys and pubs.
I did nil work for my A levels and did not get in to medical school.
I do not consider this a comment on my IQ, more my stupidity level.
I did a year of a Biology degree and you are right Plug- the people there were a cross-section and no more intelligent than those I was with at school.
It wasn't for me as it was lab-based.
I did however have a great time................recommend it to anyone.
Then I had a year off and started again with a more hospital based degree. I loved it but it was smaller and not the same as Uni, more friendly, I finished it though and it has been good for me, I made some good friends, had a great time and ended up travelling the world in the job I chose.
My point - the people on that course were a mixture, those that had 'dropped out' for what ever reasons and those that had always wanted to do it and strived really hard to get there.
People 'drop out' for all sorts of reasons - at the time I did and I don't really know why, I had every encouragement at home, books, stable life etc but I got distracted.
Others may not have such a stable home life and never aspire to university, not provided with books, help with homework, encouragement etc although some are perfectly intelligent.
Others may have circumstances against them studying - looking after ill parents etc.
In the grand scheme of things that does not matter.
I have friends from long ago that I obviously know their qualifications.
I also have more recent friends that I haven't got a clue - never thought to ask.
I do think you subconsciously judge people when you meet them on their IQ level - ie. how it equates to yours, and their sense of humour, how well you get on or should get on.
You judge this from talking to people and even on the net - it does not involve spelling or punctuation but more the way they speak.
It never occurs to me to ask for their qualifications, 'crap' degree or not, it all balances out in the end.
I think it may seem important at the time but in life it is totally irrelevant, you cannot cite someone's 'crap' degree or even total lack of as a measure of their intelligence, in years you measure that in a totally different way.
