On what I saw, yes. Jon's lack of people skills meant that when it came to conducting a decent argument he had to resort to bully boy tactics. That doesn't mean Cameron isn't capable of bully boy tactics but that's another story for the "Cameron is still a bastard" thread.

Ha Ha...Jon's lack of people skills Ha Ha Ha That's so rich....One of the few that was so unashamed to discuss subjects rather than hiding like a coward behind a fake image of naivety and religion...Jon conducted a decent argument by actually holding a view...Cameron simply pretended not to have one because he was so frightened of being unpopular...Jon actually discussed his opinions unlike most and certainly unlike Cameron....Cameron Stout's people skills are based on gossiping and bitching behind peoples backs, making childish threats and desperately pretending to be something he isn't the big fake.........And I'll discuss him as much as I like....you feel free to add your opinion of Jon to a thread entitled "Jon Tickle's Quote of the Year" with some obscure point about degree grades......Sooner that than homophobic views and wanting to lock children up on an island because they take his precious tax money.......Cameron Stout is a bully of the worst sort.....

Oh! I thought my reply was totally all about the title of the thread.
His quote was that as a nerd he knew all the answers, I suggested that he didn't, using his class of degree as a possible proof.
I could have used a more damning example of him not knowing all the answers, referring to his idea of a double acting toaster, when he said all it needed was a simple switch. Up until then I thought he was going to be Gadget Man.

Ha Ha Ha...It gets better....You really don't like Jon at all do you and now you're grasping at straws...Ha Ha Ha "possible" proof.........I think I'll just keep comparing him to that homophobic bigot Cameron who really doesn't have any answers and hasn't been put up for any quotes of the year.........But then people who offer no opinions whatsoever (until they are paid to do so after the show is finished and come out with rehashed bigoted right wing nonsense when they do) and bore people to the extent that Cameron did never will......oh I know one...."Och...I'd like to stick my finger over her windpipe"......Get that quote down..it's obviously taken from a genius......

Whether I like Jon, found him boring or whatever, has nothing to do with my original post. He made a statement about knowing all the answers, I disagreed, using his mediocre degree as a reference.
I only used the word "possible" in my last post to tone it down a bit because some people got their knickers in a twist with my first reference. I was trying to be a better person.

Actually his Toaster thing was a more definite indication of not knowing all the answers, especially for a self confessed nerd.

Ah...I see...It the "knowing everything" that has caused so much distress....Surely you could say that since he can't build a battleship from scratch is also a sure sign he doesn't know everything.....i mean...no one knows everything do they, that's omniscience.....Of course Jon's quote of the year was a self referential joke at the accusations of being a geek (a sign he isn't arrogant)...no more than a joke...a quote of the year joke no less...shows how boring he is when people are quoting him.......You degree reference was nothing more than point scoring because you see your lad...the bigoted Cameron... hasn't said anything worth quoting at all......

Cameron's notions about Asylum Seekers is a definate indication of what a despicable unlikeable bigot he is.........

Hello everyone. I stopped by DS:BB for the first time in ages and felt compelled to post.

First of all: sheeesh, do some of you guys get personal in here; about each other and the Housemates.

Cameron is who he is. He lives his life in the way that he does because he believes that it makes him a 'good person'. So do I. Whatever we all personally believe, I hope that we can all respect others' belief systems too.

Over the course of the last six months I have apologised to Ray, Justine and Cameron for things that I have said or done. You tend to think of us as the people we were in the House, but we have all grown, learned and moved on from this experience.

It's a strange experience to be socialising with a friend and to have to discuss a report that you don't get on with that person. I count twelve fantastic people as friends and I enjoy spending time in their company. End of story. I for one couldn't remember why I was supposed to dislike some people and so didn't anymore.

Anyway, to respond to some other points in this thread:

Average intelligence is defined as having an IQ of 100. I am in that half of the population with above average intelligence, given that I have an IQ above 100. How much above, I won't say and very few people know.

However, if when you say "I think he has average intelligence" you actually mean "I think he has an intelligence that I would consider average amongst my [your own] peer group or circle of friends" then yes, you're probably right. Then we're just into a pissing contest about who has the brainiest mates though, and I'm not sure where it would get us.

I have a third class honours degree in Physics from the University of Leicester. Not that great, but then again I do have a slightly odd record of never having revised for an exam in my life. You can see the effect that this had on my grades: I had an award for the best GCSE results in my school and ended up getting a Third. Mind you, given the calibre of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Leicester University, I've always thought that a Third there was worth a lot more than a higher grade from another institution. In my day, you used to be able to look through a large window in the JCR and watch people building satellites. The National Space Centre was built in Leicester for a reason.

Lastly, when I said "we have all the answers" I was actually quoting someone else. I did mean scientists, by the way. Although I'm not a practising scientist, I don't often listen to the right side of my brain. I'm pretty sure that I uttered the phrase in the last two weeks in the House..

During my three week break from the House, I took part in a Tomorrow's World Roadshow. Gaz Top was there and we were discussing what it was like to be called a nerd.

He said, "In the end, does it matter (if we are called nerds)? We have all the answers. Better that way than the other!" I thought that it was a brilliant attitude to have, so I quoted him.

We all have something that we do, whether it is stamp collecting, birdwatching, bowling, watching TV, going to church, camping or playing the accordian, that someone, somewhere would consider 'nerdish'. By that definition we are all nerds. So what? I'm comfortable with who I am and given that I assume that I'm not actually harming anyone by being me, I'm going to keep on being me and be proud of it at the same time. So should you all, my dears!

See you in a few months!

Thanks Jon, an excellent post.

I hope it proves my earlier point to Bystander that the class of your degree, if you gain a degree at all, has nothing to do with IQ level as there are many other factors that come in to play by then.
Background circumstances before that point as I said; following that distractions and lack of commitment that can cause one to do rather less well than expected, myself included.
Assessment in the future has increasingly little to do with paper qualifications.

I also hope that your post disproves to some their remarks about your eloquence - that is quite clear and I enjoyed reading your post, very well said.

Thanks for taking the time to reply and I wish you well as always.

ps. As for the 'nerd' thing, as I said I would have probably thumped Ian by now but you took it all in good part and smiled throughout, well done for that.
I am sure that most here and elsewhere recognised your remarks on this as being obviously tongue-in-cheek.

Stay grounded and Happy 2004!

I think we have total agreement Mes.

Thanks for a lovely post Jon, although I'm still a bit pissed off with you because I wanted to brandish my GCE 'O' level in Woodwork.

You do realise of course that you've messed up the forum now. There's not much left to fight about.

I never said anything there that I didn't a page back, as you well know.
Jon wrote a great post and I would say it was more - stop trying to draw attention away from your trolling posts Bystander....

You have it from the horse's mouth - quit now and do a U-turn, troll on or give up on it.

Exactly! We had already discussed it and I believe I also accepted your point regards degrees and levels of intelligence. We had a good laugh about it; well I did, you didn't, yet you decided to flaunt yourself in front of Jon and repeat it.........you little minx.

Why don't you just be thankful and praise the Lord for the second coming.

I enjoyed Jon's post and said what I thought, as I did before, full stop.

You might have noticed in that post I kept well away from any reference to intelligence and the inevitable debate on "A degree equals a measure of intelligence" with supplementary questions on common sense and being street smart.........

That's what I said in my post 03-01-2004.......................There might have been a bit of spin but certainly no twisting.

Well, I have had a little think about this one and have been doing so for some time.

Your general posts, Bystander are sarcastic one-liners that some would see as amusing.

They aren't really though are they, or meant that way?

They are not based on fact or observation, your opinion on an event etc. - they are more wild speculative sarcastic remarks which have no basis in truth, designed to provoke a reaction from others on here.
The danger is that others who do not know any better may read your fabrications and agree with them although I am sure you know that most are not true and about many of them some others do too, they may say or may not.

It has become an increasing chore to read these boards and try to defend your trolling remarks when one knows that these have been constructed solely for this purpose.

I've had a great time on here in the last year and a half although sadly many others have disappeared also.
It's been quite a routine calling on here when I boot up the comp. and in the evenings.
I may drop in some time again - maybe for BB5 or before if I cannot keep away.

Happy New Year to all
Edna

Well......duh

It's part of the fun of the forum. Most of the slanging matches between forum members are fun to read and aren't taken too seriously by any of the people involved. If anything gets too nasty, there's a good moderation team round these parts and they do an excellent job.

As for getting personal about the housemates.....it's all part of the price you pay for signing up for Big Brother I'm afraid. I'm sure the benefits outweigh the disadvantages

Everything I have posted is based on my observations of the HM's in the BB house, apart from any out and out obviously send up stories.
My interpretation of those observations is, like everyone elses, purely an opinion but I certainly don't make up things or lie about them..............what's the point of that on this forum when there's so many people that would jump on you if you did.

I have just replied to your post accusing me of twisting things, with proof that I hadn't.

Anyway, it's water under the bridge now.

Happy New Year to you Anon.
