It's a hard one but for me it's The Killers. Kaiser chiefs are always being compared to them but they had one great album and that was employment.

There's alot of good indie with an Oasis vibe to it like Glasvegas and The Enemy but they are still relatively new bands.

Kings of Leon had one main stream album there but they are not really counted as proper indie. There's been a few bands like Keane and Razorlight came onto the scene but never did much. Coldplay also got alot of hype but they have come and went from the music scene.

For me The Killers are the best since Oasis. I would say the comeback of Blur and The Verve has been good but that's for the 90's.

Possibly Kasabian. Not keen on many "new" indie bands.

What are your thoughts on Arctic Monkeys? Would you consider them too "new" or not "indie" enough?

The Killers was the first thing that came to mind before I even opened the thread. Personally they're not even in the same league as Oasis for me (although I do love them), but I can't think of anyone more so.

I did consider KoL too, but I don't think they're really well-known enough, besides the last album, although maybe I'm wrong.

Oasis=one of the most overrated bands of all time.

Their so-called support band Kasabian blow them out of the water.

Though I'll always love Oasis, The Killers are a much better band technically. Not that there isn't tons of mediocrity on both Sam's Town and Day & Age... but when they hit the mark they REALLY do.

Most of my favourite bands are pre-Oasis - the Manics, RHCP, REM, Radiohead etc. No-one has come close to those four btw. Will we ever see a band with that level of class ever again?? I think that's why everyone went crazy for The Killers because they showed that promise.

You could add Pulp, The Verve, Embrace to that era too.

why does the band need to be 'indie'?

"the best band since" Oasis could be any genre - but does the question mean the best band since Oasis became famous or what? does it only include bands that were formed after Oasis or does it include bands that first became well-known after Oasis?

for some people The Pussycat Dolls would be in the running...

Personally, I can't think of a band as big as Oasis as good as Oasis were at their peak since.

Strictly speaking, the Pussycat Dolls aren't a band. It's just a woman singing over a backing track while her mates dance around in the background.

Since when were the Kaiser Chiefs compared to Oasis. I think the Kaiser Chiefs believed their own hype and compared themselves to Oasis and since "employment" which in my opinion is an average album at best they've made two other appaling albums since. For me its either Interpol or Bloc Party but in terms of bands who are being compared to Oasis I feel Kasabian might take the batton. But I think for the cultural impact its gotta be The Arctic Monkeys.

I actually enjoyed The Enemy more than Kasabian! But then that's just my opinion.

agreed. basic riffs. woeful lyrics

for me, the best guitar bands of the last few years are definitely "the killers" "kasabian" "kaiser chiefs" (kkk?)

i also really like franz ferdinand, especially the self-titled album stuff

surprised no ones mentioned Muse but anyway.... and I think the Killers are slightly overrated

Hot Fuss = Brilliant
Sam's Town = Decent
Day & Age = mediocre

I'd have to say either The Libertines or Kasabian. I don't think many other post-Oasis bands come close.
