Coke Zero Banned
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20090611/...h-3fd0ae9.html
At long last a country with sense to ban these nasty, evil diet drinks. Stopped drinking anything with artificial sweetners in 2 years ago. |

You forgot to put "...in a place that has no relevance to 99.9% of people reading this". Do you work for a tabloid by any chance?

So what's the advice being looked for here? I'd advise changing your opinion and stop being led by sensationalist scaremongering.

Actually I have to agree with the OP. I try to avoid artificial sweetners because they taste vile and they are made from chemicals. Also Venezuela is a sugar producing country and they would want to encourage the increased use of sugar. I found this on the interweb: Quote:
Venezuela’s sugar production does not meet domestic demand. The lack of incentives to plant more area to sugar cane is defined by the existence of controlled prices at the retail level and increasing costs of production. Nevertheless, during 2005/06 there was an effort from growers and millers to achieve better yields as well as to increase sugar content of sugar cane. Imports of raw and refined sugar are expected to continue in order to keep up with demand.

Next they will be pumping artificially produced poison gas through the stuff just to make it taste better. |

Anything other than proper Coke out of the proper glass bottles is evil.

Having read Mark Thomas's Belching out the Devil I would disagree with the above comment.

I think the issue the OP is/was raising is that Aspartame is said to be a carcinogenic, but I think (IIRC) its is very much dependant on the level of intake.

The evidence for Aspartame being dangerous is very circumstantial, it has been declared safe by most countries, including the American FDA.

Yes, I'm aware of that, but there are still a lot of sceptics out there, that's all. I assume the OP is amongst them.

I think i'll believe all the food agencies that say it is perfectly safe over that woman. Who is she?
Her Ph.D is from Clayton College of Natural Health Incidentally the same place Gillian McKeith got her 'qualification' from. |

Well I avoid aspartame because the after taste is absolutely awful. I would prefer saccharin if I had to choose.

Plenty of us diabetics enjoy the flavour of colas but must limit our sugar intake. I hope the Venezualan economy doesn't collapse because we choose diet/zero/max varieties

It's the same as with MMR, someone said it was dangerous then loads of other people proved it wasn't, but people still believe the hype.
Look at medication, all of it goes through endless tests and trials before it is declared/proved safe, then either years or sometimes months later they discover it has side effects that harm or worse. |
