I've been following this thread with some interest.
I will make this my only post on the issue, as I don't really feel it is my place to comment on the business decisions of both Time and Centreforce. I don't know the detail from either side. However, whether you liked the Centreforce output or not -and I will pass no comment on that personally- I was slightly disappointed to read the nature of some of the comments on the 'Save our Soul Syndicate' Facebook group, and particularly to see some of the people who were involved on and off air with Centreforce making some rather unpleasant comments about current presenters. When Centreforce first became involved in the station about three years ago, there were a lot of purple on here and elsewhere who were sceptical about the professionalism of that group of people. Over three years I'd like to think they were proved wrong on that front, even if the output was not to their taste. It would be a great shame to see that spoilt by an aggressive and unpleasant social media campaign against the current presenters. Three years ago, I had shows - with loyal audiences - which I lost as a result of Centreforce appearing on the scene. I could have hit the Internet screaming and moaning about it. But this is radio. These things happen. So I wished - genuinely - the new boys and girls well and moved on. Now they're in the same situation, I'd urge them to do the professional thing and do the same. |

good post skelsey but I dont see any presenters attacking anyone they are just passionate about their music which comes across in their shows all respect to you but when your shows were replaced was there a public outburst of dismay?
The fact that time havnt replied to the thousands of complaints they have received is wrong. Also the fact that current presenters are lying saying they are receiving no complaints and that the new pre recorded shows are popular . I hear that Mat received over 500 calls this weekend complaining the solid gold sunday it is said received great feedback on sunday HOW? No one was there it was pre recorded . I think the centreforce djs have acted respectfully when they have every right to be angry some of them won awards for their radio shows on time and worked hard for cancer charities and all for free . For time to just discard them and not even aknowledge their input is disgusting. |

Reading Simon Kelsey's post regarding listenership from 3 years ago, shows to an extent how some listeners were disillusioned by Time's radical dual format policy.
However, if anything can be learned from the Centreforce era is there is an audience for classic soul music. 2,000+ appealing on Facebook for the Soul Syndicate output is an audience ready for grabbing. Like Rinse, Centreforce should apply for a community licence for the area. There hasn't been a community station for the area since the broad service Link FM closed a couple of years ago and the product is niche enough to serve one section of the community who are passionate about the music. In the meantime, while I applaud Time for bringing back Solid Gold Sunday, they shouldn't forget the soul roots of the licence and playlist more mainstream soul music and less Madness during daytime and at least a Saturday afternoon/evening of the genre in addition. |

There appears to be a live show on tonight called Friday Night Floorfillers playing mainstream soul and disco with Paul Travi.

The Facebook group now has a scan of an article in the local paper. it appears Time wanted to slash their hours, axing the weekend slots with only 4 hours a night on weekdays.
Centreforce are quoted as they're about providing their service at weekends and left. |
