O2 refused my credit check yesterday for a iPhone, but it might be because I made a mistake on the Carphone Warehouse online order form. Is it worth reapplying on the CPW site with the correct info?

i think you need to speak to them as, after being turned down you can't normally reapply for a few months.

Hi there,

I was chatting to a friend earlier who got his contract for o2 with cpw & it is just as well you got refused as there is a catch.

When you sign up to o2 via cpw, all your billing is dealt with cpw in fact everything to do with your account is with cpw.

I also got refused by cpw / mobiles.co.uk for an iphone but then I phoned o2 & they said to me that next week once the new iphone comes in store, for me to get in touch via web / phone / pop into store & they will retry the application for me under there credit checking.

The o2 sales peep who I spoke to on the phone said that sometimes cpw will give you an 100% refusal for their o2 contract where as o2 may only give you a partial refusal, which will then require you to lay down a deposit which you get creddited to your account in 3 months.

Good luck

CPW haven't been billing new customers for over a year so the credit check that we run is exactly the same as the one o2 will do.

i believe it's an urban myth that the sim only credit check is easy. you could still run up a huge bill. certainly vodafone said on their forums that it's the same.

the networks run a pragmatic credit check in the event of a partial fail. vodafone will consider other evidence, o2 will take a deposit etc.

cpw are just a bunch of ####s basically.

When I was at TMO, some people were refused full contracts but offered SIMOs as a result of the credit check. Some who applied for a SIMO were only offered the "lite" version, ie no MMS or roaming allowed.

i actually think fear of credit checks is one of the things that reduces network churn.

Forget the iPhone, go for simplicity, conduct your account 100% as you should for a few months, pay the bill bang on time (or before it's due) and then ask to 'upgrade' to a full contract. They prob won't even bother credit checking you again.
