LG Viewty - Any owners like to tell me about it?
I've always had Sony E before (w890 at the mo)
My current wants are + java games player ( i have loads java games, i play them everyday and it absolute must i can install them - which rules out all Samsungs) +Large Touch screen +Better sound (my w890 is pants without earphones) + 5 mp camera (then i can sell my old camera and mobile) + music player / mp3/wma (I use music player daily so navigation is a priority) + bluetooth (w-fi would be nice but not essential) LG Viewty ticks all those boxes and Tesco selling them for £120 - which seems like a bargain for this spec LG Cookie seems similar but only 3 mp camera - but LG cookie benefits from automatic orientation (portait/landscape) which souds great feature - does Viewty do this? |

I assume you mean the old Viewty and not the Viewty Smart and all I can say is the screen and OS are horrible to use but that's just my opinion of it.
On screen text input just doesn't work well at all with a resistive touch screen which is probably why LG changed it to a capacitive touch screen on the Viewty Smart. Also mobile phone cameras use really poor quality lenses so I would never sell a real camera for any of them. |

Don't go there
![]() I have had enough of it after 7 months. Awful OS, crap touch screen, crap text input and atrocious camera. 5MP? My 4 year old SE K750i gives better images. The sound through headphones is dire as well - and the music player on the mobile is pretty rubbish. Yes, it plays Java and yes it has a big 3" screen - but when the touch screen is so bad you wish it didn't... I'd take your £120 an look for a better phone - preferably one with more than 3 buttons! |

I got a cashback deal on one when they first came out. It's not that great, although if you can be bothered with going to the trouble of modding it, you can make it better than it is out of the box.
The main problem with it really is that it's just plain average at everything it does. Too much compression is used on photos once they're actually saved in memory, so the camera being 5MP is pretty much meaningless. The music player's just OK. The video recording function is decent for a phone. DivX support is fine, but then you have to re-encode any video you're likely to want to watch because of resolution restrictions, so it may as well not have it. Playing Java games with the touch screen isn't a great experience. I received all of the cashback payments during my contract, so I essentially got the phone for nothing. I honestly wouldn't pay £120 for one though. I'm not really up on the latest phones, but I'm sure you could do better for that kind of money. |

I love my Viewty. I would not buy it at Tesco. It is cheaper in Argos at 96 pounds.
Photos are great with fantastic definition. Videos are fab! Files are quick to transfer. Only thing I don't like on it is the internet. It costs too much. Here are a few photos I took to give you some idea. http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._3023902_n.jpg http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._5690164_n.jpg |

i got my viewty from carphone warehouse . cost just £98. its unlocked.
what i like is the video recorder is very good, camera seems okay to me, texting is okay on it , its 3g so browsing not to bad. i can watch youtube on it, also a nice big screen. there are some sites that allow radio streaming. unfortuantly if you want full radio streaming , and bbc iplayer you best avoid. but for a basic phone its okay. would of been better with a 3.5m headphone socket as well. camera wise if you want brilliant david bailey shots get a proper camera, other wise for quick family shots it does the job and also there is no shutter lag like with the samsung u600 .. regards popp |

I know you can get a Nokia 5800 for about 170 quid and people seem to really like it at around that price point, I have never tried it so unsure what it's like.

I'm already on Tesco (£10 + £10 credit) hence why that appeals to me - I'm tempted take this opportunity to move back to Virgin (Viewty @ £99) but i'm very, very low user so i think Tesco still cheaspest for me . |

You can choose either auto, landscape, beach.party, night, sport or portrait for photos.
You can also select smile, normal, continuous or panorama. The Cookie and the Nokia 5800 both do this but the Viewty does not. |

but does it do the whole auto-screen-rotate thing (not just camera operations) - on the cookie it's called 'built-in accelerometer'

I got the impression he was talking about an Accelerometer, where when you turn the phone on its side it flips the screen round.
The Cookie and the Nokia 5800 both do this but the Viewty does not. . |

The Nokia 5800 has many advantages such as a better OS and GPS, have a look at a comparison here http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3...&idPhone1=2537

i had one and i loved it. it survived many a fall to the cold hard ground, and even survived a dunk in my chemical filled basin! it gave up the ghost earlier this week when it got another dunk. 15 months it lasted, longest a phone has ever lasted me. just bought a cookie to tide me over until i decide whether or not i can afford the iphone this year!

I got a Viewty last year and used it for one month before sticking it in a drawer. Awful touch screen and battery goes from half full to empty in a couple of hours with little warning. Personally I would never recommend this phone.
Unlike some people I never had a problem with the camera but the whole user interface leaves a lot to be desired. |
