Lean, Mean, Hard to Clean, Smokey and Smelly Grilling Machine

I bought one a few years ago and have rarely used it, finding that it just made the kitchen stink like a 3AM fast food joint; not to mention cleaning. Food just encrusted itself to the hotplates, not coming off easily at all.

I try and buy good quality food as much as possible so I don't really want the flavour pouring out into a drip tray... (so I use the feet that make it less steep).

Reason for posting today is that I just bought some kebabs from the local farmers market and thought it would be quick and easy to go on the George Foreman. In terms of cooking it was - 8 mins and done; but the marinade on the kebabs just ended up as a thick gloopy mess.

Does anyone have and use one of these regularly? In which case, what do you cook on it, what works well / tastes good grilled on a George Foreman, and most importantly how messy and smokey does it get?

I used to hate those toasted sandwhich makers,, cos they were hard to clean off, plus they used to stick to it, making your sandwhich stick and you end up in a mess also....

I wonder how George Foreman cleans them

I still use a cast iron grill pan. Some food does stick but if you put it under hot water while the pan is still hot then it really helps the cleaning process rather than letting it cool.

I will get around to buying a non-stick one but for now the old cast iron one works fine.

Cast iron griddle pan for me as well. Mine is over 10 years old now and I have such a good coating on it there is no need to buy non stick.
George Foreman grills are utterly useless for me, sorry.

My boyfriend and I use our George Foreman regularly.

When we first got it we just used soapy water and found it difficult to clean.

We got some fairy power spray and found it makes it so much easier to clean ours. We just wait for the George Foreman to cool off, squirt it with the fairy spray, leave 10 minutes or so and then literally wipe it clean.

I would recommend getting some

Thanks!

What sort of things do you cook on it?

Your welcome

We cook Salmon fillets, Trout fillets, Steak, Pork Steaks/Chops, sliced peppers, courgettes and Halloumi cheese on ours.

I cut in half new pots par boil them and then roast them in the oven....but now you have got me thinking about what else i can use it for! I think I will try slicing and par boiling the new pots and put them on the George Foreman sprinkled with rosemary or thyme and see what they are like.
