My dog is acting strange
Piraci

He has a gunky eye, shaking and a loss of appetite. I managed to get him to drink some water earlier and a couple vitamin tablets but he's very sleepy all the time too.

Any ideas??

You should phone the vet and tell them the symptoms, see if they think he needs an emergency appointment.

is there not an emergency number you can call before then?

if he's not eating, something could SERIOUSLY be wrong i'd suggest you call it as soon as you find the number, leaving something like this for 2 days isn't an option, your animals life could be in danger, these may only be the start of symptoms, leading to much much worse outcomes.

dogs don;t just stop eating for no reason

when you say gunky eye, what do you mean?

is it sticky? sticking closed? weeping? smelly? coloured?

you really, really need to get this animal to a vet.

Vets have emergency lines, ring them and you'll get through, they will give you advice over phone or direct you as to where to go if needed be...

Your doggie sounds unwell Hope he's okay... His other symptoms could all be related to his eye, could be a bad infection that has made him go into shock etc from the pain, needs treating.

I definitely think the OP's time would be better spent sorting out the dog, rather than posting 50 times in the BB forum.

Every vet has an emergency service, or find the nearest open surgery or RSPCA and have the dog seen. You can't leave the animal for 48 hours without eating.

rung an emergency line and told the symptoms he thinks it's a fever and told me to bring him in monday morning for some anti biotic shots and a to have a look at him

I took him out for a nice walk got some fresh air and let him do his buisness

came back and rolled some vitamin tablets (doggy tabs) in pieces of ham and managed to get him to eat it, he ate a whole packs worth - wouldnt eat the biscuits but ate the ham full

he perked up a bit for a while but has now settled down for a nap, his eye is closed because its gunky but i've bought some eye wetwipes i'm going to use to clear the eye out with.

he has stopped shivering now - the vet said just let him have lots of rest and keep him hydrated/fed

can i ask why you give your dog vitamin tablets, and i would worry if he ate a whole packs worth.

Has the vet said he needs vitamin tablets?

I got the impression it is a whole pack of ham the dog ate not the whole pack of vitamin tablets, but could be wrong.
I hope your dog is ok, try and bathe the dogs eye as if thats annoying the dog it may make him feel even worse

Any update here? i am not convinced if it was one of mine I would be happy waiting until Monday morning.

One of mine had a very similar 'episode'' a few years ago, she was in the vets within 15 minutes and had been stung in the mouth

I am a total loss why people think it is acceptable to wait maybe I am the over cautious one, but I know (with the exception of one who is a fussy madam) if they are not eating, something is wrong

Very strange response from the OP's vet - "Oh, it's a fever, just wait until Monday". What's causing the fever? How high is it? What happens if it gets worse? Fevers can be a sign of serious illness, no decent vet would just ignore it.

Vitamin pills aren't going to have the slightest effect, because the dog shouldn't be short of vitamins if it's getting proper dog food. And a whole pack of ham isn't a good diet for a dog either, too much salt.
