water damage?
Hi, my daughter got a sony ericsson w580i just a month ago, whilst near a river she got her bag wet and the I think the phone aswell, I dried it out under a sixty watt bulb for a few days and the phone came on and everything seemed to be working, screen, sound music player etc. Then I noticed that it was not picking up the O2 network, the screen displays "emergency calls only" and when I do a manual search it only finds orange and t-mobile, there was a good O2 signal before and my own o2 phone picks up a strong signal no problem, her sim works fine in my phone and my phone will not pick up a signal in her phone. This is very annoying as all other aspects of the phone work fine! Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be occuring and how to fix it? Maybe doing a reset? Or updating the software via the internet? Any advice would be great, thanks.

Ill ask you one question.
Would you expect your TV to work properly again after you dropped it in a river? Best advice i would give you is try a local independent shop and see what they can do because your warranty is shot. |

i don't think a software update or a reset is going to help you.
a thought that occurs to me is that o2 and vodafone mostly run their GSM network on 900MHz whilst orange and tmobile run it on 1800MHz. that could explain why those two exist. possibly some damage to the transceiver circuit. it may well work fine on tmobile or orange. what S-T-E-V-E said, albeit incredibly patronisingly may well be right. an independent repair centre. |
