WELL.

After my previously adamant stance of "I wouldn't drink Rose", I actually had a glass yesterday and quite enjoyed it.

I don't know what it was, but it's the only Rose I've ever liked. It was almost worth the £7 a glass price tag ... so I didn't get angry with my friend for ordering it for me!

No, no, people drink white wine too cold. Put it in the fridge, sure, then take it out about 30 mins before drinking so the outside of the bottle is nicely misted. Much more flavour.

I agree, people drink wine far too cold in this country, it is not meant to be ice cold.

The Real Rosé Wine Company's pink zinfandel is lush chilled on a hot day like today.
Though always put off having any wine at a pub as its normally way too cold

The only time I've had red with ice was in Paris in 2003 during the canicule.

It's not really about wine snobbery, it's about getting the best from your wine. Ros/e is made to be drunk chilled, and you'll get the best flavour from it if you do so. But, hey, you're the one drinking it, so pour it in your kettle and boil it if that's what you prefer. Stick it in your freezer and blast it to ice cold if you want. You can have ros/e lollies.

The locals did this when I lived in Barcelona.

Some many different versions of why but my favourite was it makes the drink last longer and reduces the amount of time it takes to have alcohol into the system especially during mammoth tapas sessions

They do in Spain as well. It takes the edge of very rough tannic wine.

Surely it depends if you want it cold or not?

My (Greek) inlaws too and in general any cheap reds get chilled in the summer simply because it's too hot to consume anything that isn't cold and it doesn't spoil them but if you go somewhere serving very good reds they will come unchilled.
I always chill Rose though, it seems more like a white wine to me in that respect.

The californian ones are sweet and fruity. The french ones taste more like wine. Chill them both, and keep them chilled while glugging.

Have you tried the Blossom hill white grenache ? Although E Gallo is my fave the Blossom one is very nice and always seems to be on offer at £2.99 in Bargain booze, which is very good.

White & Rose are best chilled.

With regards to red wine, although it's probably best not to chill it to the same degree as white & rose, there is a misconception by many that it should be served at room temperature. This is also apparently incorrect.

Red wine is intended to be drunk at cellar temperature, which is of course substantially cooler than your average centrally heated house
