Why does my cat do this?

Before I start, I am NOT complaining about this. I adore my cat and let him do everything he wants

Anyway, ever since we got him really (late 2006) he has always shown increased affection towards me. He will only come and sit on my knee. He will only sleep on my bed and in my room. He will not sit with my mother or anyone else in the house, despite them being the ones who feed him.

But he also does something else. He pushes his paws into my stomach and, sort of, opens his claws up. He does this over and over again and purrs whilst he is doing it. He does not do this to anyone else and although this may sound disgusting, he sometimes 'leaks' certain bodily fluids

What is this behaviour and does anyone know a reason why he only does it on me? I'm not complaining, I'm just curious.

Mine does the same. She only loves me.

She only shows her anal glands to me also.

So this could be an affection thing? If so, I think I'm flattered

It's an instinctive reaction to pleasure and contentment.

Kittens do this whilst suckling from the mother cat to bring the nipples out.

our tom does this "padding", usually on the back of my head when i'm asleep. it bloody hurts

op, i don't know about your cat, but when ours has been padding for a while he goes into a trance and looks completely zoned out

Yup, same here. It does hurt sometimes because he digs right in and causes scratches. But if I touch him or try to disturb him in any way whilst he is doing this, he acts all surprised like I've just crept up on him. His ears also go all the way back as well.

Now that I know that it's a sign of affection, he shall receive even more attention than he already gets!

Yes it's related to kittens suckling but it's more to do with encouraging the milk release rather than bringing out the teats/nipples.

As it's positively associated with comfort, warmth, food and care-giving from the mother it creates and confirms a feeling of emotional security

Many cats will dribble and drool while doing this

my older boy does this to his blanket. He luuurves his blanket waaay too much, he 'drinks' his blanket as well as all the kneading and purring etc. I always assumed it was a throw back to his kitten days, but he aint gonna get any milk from a whiffy old blanket!

One of my cats does this to me particulary if I am wearing my dressing gown, he sucks and kneeds it and drools over me and even 'kisses' me though I do try to avert my mouth he sometimes catches me unawares and I have a drooly fish kiss
