Freezing fresh fruit...

I'm trying to be practical.
My girls have a dancing show next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night. They're only 5 and are going to be out quite late each night so the plan is same as last year to prepare healthy snacks for them to keep their energy levels up through the night so they don't overtire.

Asda were selling big tubs of fresh strawberries for £1 when I went in the other day. Great bargain so I bought 3 tubs
Mostly for us to eat in the house but I thought if I could freeze a tub before they manage to go off, then put it in the picnic bag for one of the nights it would be a refreshing snack for the girls.

However! OH says you can't just bung them in the freezer... is that true? I thought you just froze them and that was it!

I thought it didn't really matter!

Trouble is when you defrost them they are mushy and only of use for making a puree or jam.

yeah strawberries don't freeze well. Raspberries, blueberries, blackcurrants ('forest fruits') do freeze well, but strawberries - don't do it!
