I posted on friday regarding my 8 month old kitten stella. On saturday i was in the flat with her all day - she was moaning and moaning so i decided to take her for a walk -- i went outside with her and she was very happy - i went back to the flat and called her from the balcony she knew where i was and she stayed close and then i went to collect her after 10 mins or so.

Now i know you may all shout but she hasnt been 'done' yet - she is booked in for the 25th June! She is in heat as the night before she has her bum raised and padding the floor with her rear legs.

So after i took her back inside she sat by the front door moaning constantly!!!!It was starting to upset me as she sounded distressed almost. Very loud moan! So i took her back out - but the sky man turned up so i had to leave her out there for a while.......she hasnt returned since.

I dont know what to do - she has been missing since 3pm on saturday!!! I have sat by the window constantly and left the balcony doors open - not slept a wink. I have walked the estate several times calling her and shaking her favourite toy, i have asked all my neighbours as well. The flat is so quite without her and i am totally gutted. I know its my fault and thats why im kicking myself more - i should have just kept her in regardless of her moaning.

I am really hoping she will come back - do you think this is possible? What should i do next?

Do cats run away when there on heat???

Thank you

On heat they will seek a mate and yes if it means running away they will. The moaning was part of the heat she was already seeking a mate. Hopefully she will return although she may come back pregnant

Oh dear, this must be very worrying for you but a female cat in season is so highly motivated & driven to find a mate that she would do just about anything to go out! The loud calling is all part of this & there is no way that she would respond to you if she was determined to go find a fella!!

I strongly suspect that she will have found a mate by now & she has probably been with him for the last 24 hours or so. You should keep going out & calling for her & perhaps try a bit further afield in case she has followed a male cat. Also ask your neighbours, put up posters or put leaflets through doors. Ring round local vets & rescue centres in case someone hands her in. Is she chipped or does she wear a collar?

If she does come back you should take her to the vets immediately for a check up ~ chances are she'll be pregnant but also she should be checked over for any bites or scratches from a feral male cat & any contagious diseases.

I hope you find her soon & that she's not come to any harm.

When i was a kid our cat vanished but came back after 4 weeks!

Cats always leave behind a scent.

Just in case Stella returns pregnant, you may like to know that the gestation period for cats is 60 to 68 days ~ the patter of tiny paws etc.

I hope she comes back soon, I'm sure she will.
One of mine did this when she was a kitten. She came into season before we'd had her done and after a few minute wailing and howling in the garden she was over the fence and gone. She came back a few days later, amazingly not pregnant. Funnily though, she's still a one for the tom cats, even though it's 9 years since she was spayed and she still roams for days at a time - it seemed she got a taste for it as kitty

Its nice to hear some positive stories of kittens returning. I am really hoping this is the case. I have all the neighbours looking out for her too.

I will keep you all updated.

Thank you

Have you phoned the local rescue centres and vets in case someone has found her and taken her there?

Is there any positive news of Stella yet?

Just to say if she does come back pregnant, the vet can still spay her - it's not a nice thought but probably better for both your kitty and the many, many cats out there who need loving homes.

Still no news on stella - i am just about to get the number for the local rescue centre and try them - will also ring the local vets to see if anyone has taken her in.

I am very tearful today - think my work collegues think i am a little crazy.

How long do cats normally run off for to find a 'mate' ? will be 72 hours at 3 oclock today

Cats can be gone for days sometimes, after you've had them for a while you get used to their individual habits. One of mine is a house cat, she rarely goes out and if she's gone more an hour I worry. The other has ambitions to be a feral I think. She can disappear for days at a time and I don't start worrying until 3 or 4 days have past (and I know people think I'm uncaring for that, but she always comes back looking no worse for her travels - and usually at 3am!).

Good luck phoning the rescue centres. You could also try printing some flyers and putting them up in local shops if she's not back soon because someone might just have taken her in and be feeding her.

I hope your returns soon as well, don't feel silly being upset.

I'm so sorry to hear about both your missing cats

Have you tried putting posters up in the neighbourhood and asking people to look in their sheds, garages and out buildings?

My neighbour did that when her cat went missing, and it turned out he has got himself locked in house where the people had moved out and it was going to be a few months before the new people were due to move in

Luckily they had left another neighbour with a key for emergancies...she saw the posters and checked on the off chance he might have wandered in as they were moving out and found him

I hope your kitties both come home soon

O dear - when did your little one go missing? its such a hard time - just rang our vets and they have put her in the lost book but apart from that they were really unhelpful - quite dissapointed to be honest - thought they may have pointed me in a few diffrent directions to help me find her..

Posters are been printed now.

My OH is trying to act positive for me but i know hes just as upset, he called her more lovely names than he calls me - bless him.

Mine went last night

I've rang all thet vets in the area, and the rescue centres. Most people were nice, but one woman was such a bitch that she made me cry.

Some other ideas might be putting an add in your local paper/radio station or if your town has a freecycle or chat forum then maybe add a note there. I've also posted a picture on facebook and have my friends passing it round and we've also been to the local pub/shop/chippy and asked there. We've spoken to a few neighbours but tonight we'll be going door to door round the area with flyers.

Hope you find yours soon too

She should come back. My cat was missing for 2 months and he came back with another cat that was pregnant. I think she was a stray, as she had no collar/chip so we kept her and gave the kittens to friends and family. 8 years on and they are like an old couple.

That's a nice ending. I take it he was the daddy of the kittens? It's like a long lost son bringing home his girlfriend to meet his parents.

I think so. most of them looked like him. If he wasn't then I have no idea why she was following him around everywhere. stalker perhaps?

I really hope both of your cats come back soon... they're little sods when they run off.. mine haven't yet, but I know the day will come when they will... I'll keep my fingers crossed for you both and hopefully when I next log on it'll be to hear good news ! ( of course you'll be so busy cuddling & listening to them telling you all about their adventure you won't have time to let us know !! )

One of ours used to wander off for 5 days at a time and just as I'd rung all the vets, rescue centres, walked the streets countless times and rung the council absolutely sobbing (the lady on the other end was SO kind) fearing the worst he finally strolls home no worse for wear.

The biggest worry I have for your kitty is that it's a new area and she won't have scent marked her territory properly or got used to the features of the area. Something else that is worth a try - I remember you said she started going out at your old place and had done so for a couple of weeks so it might be worth going back there to see the new residents and ask them to keep an eye out for her - she might find her way back (cats are known to have done amazing journeys to get back to familiar territory). If possible leave a picture with them as it may be some weeks before she turns up there.

I hate to suggest this BUT it's also worth ringing the environmental dept of your local council - if the worst has happened then they will have recovered her body from the roadside and I believe most of them freeze cats/dogs they find for a week or so in case the owners ring to find out about them

I had a cat go missing for about 3 years once! We had replaced him and had two babies, not to mention moved house! He turned up at the old house and the neighbours remembered him. He was half wild and full of fleas so we think he had just gone native. He stayed with the owner of our old house as they had grown attached and we didn't think he would settle with us again.
