What is in this dog?

Hopefully going to adopt this dog but was wondering what it is. I know its a Heinz 57 and there is probably some Basset in there but I'd love to know what else he may be.
Reason is I already have 2 King Charles Cavs and want to make sure that he will be able to integrate with them.
Any help would be appreciated

I'm no expert on dog breeds but it looks like there could be dachshund in there somewhere.

Good luck with the adoption ~ I hope it all goes well.

You must have read my mind. I thought there may be a bit of Daschund in there too. Also there may be a bit of Collie in there.

Thanks for your help wilhemina

Collie, possibly some spaniel judging by the ears, or that could also be dachsund influence. The body shape could come from a Corgi as well.

A lovely-looking dog.

I've known people keep King Charles (not sure what the plural is) with all sorts of other dogs.

I completely agree with Wilhemina! Definitely a lot of long-haired Dachshund in the dog - a friend of mine has three of them and they are just very happy little dogs with lovely natures!

Having had Bassets all my life I don't see any Basset Hound in it at all. Bassets have massive feet and big heavy bones and this dog looks quite fine in comparison.

A lot of long haired Dacshund imo, with something heavier around the muzzle.
However how well it gets on with your King Charles' is much more likely to depend on their relative personalities than what his breeds are.
Even with pure breeds the individual personality and its experiences/learning counts for much more than the expected breed traits, as some are very much more breed-typical than other.
Once you get into crossbreeds they can look like one parent and behave like another, and anything in between.
Can you introduce them somewhere neutral to see how they get on before the final decision to adopt this one?

Many many years ago we bought a Dachshund from a breeder, who also breed Great Danes, and yes there was some cross puppies.

Mum was a Dane, Dad was a very persistent Dachie.

Lots of long haired Dachshund, in your photo, good luck.

my instant reaction was dachshund.... and then i thought it had longer hair and its ears look a little spaniel.. but on looks alone it looks very dachshund to me.

We went to see him but unfortunately didn't pursue the adoption. Our Cavs were terrified of him as he is HUGE.
The picture is quite deceptive as he is about 3 foot from nose to tail and about 14 inches high. Of the 14" only 4" is legs!!
He was a complete freak but absolutely gorgeous. He was probably the strangest looking dog I've ever seen but I did fall in love with him. He was very affectionate and would make somebody a lovely pet.

If anybody is interested in him please contact Daphne on 01493 653955 and ask about Shorty

The wife and I decided to get another 2 Cavs in the end

Awwww, poor Shorty! Look what it says about him! How could such a happy looking chap be a stray?!!!!

Shorty - Stray, Short legs, long Body, May have a bit of Bassett in him, Male, about 1 year old, about 14 inches tall at the shoulder, very affectionate and nice dog, no history. Poor boy is rotting away in strays kennels because for some reason no one is interested in him, please if you are thinking of a pet dog give us a call to discuss him.

He looks so sweet, if I lived near Norfolk I would have him! Surely there is someone that way with a kind heart and a nice home for Shorty! I bet if he was shown on GMTV in the morning there would be 500 people wanting to give him a home!
