Cooking for the boyfriend
hazy-days
15-06-2009
Hi,

My boyfriend comes round on Wednesday nights and we watch a film and I cook for him. Up until now I've made things that are simple and I'm comfortable with - lasagna, fajitas, stir frys, curries. Nothing too fancy but he seems to have liked it all (or is a convincing liar ) However I'm running out of fresh ideas and am looking for some inspiration. Can anyone recommend any recipes? I'm quite keen to cook him steak at some point, it's something I've never made for myself but he loves it when we go out. But I'm open to ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is really simply and quick to prep:
Dice a couple of Lamb steaks
Halved new potatos
Couple of onions halved or quatered.
Few cloves of garlic
Few sprigs of rosemary
Salt Pepper
Good glug of olive oil (use quite a bit)
Can chopped toms
Chuck it all in a roasing dish and mix up
Put in in a 200c pre-heated oven, then turn down to 160c and cook for about hour.

Steak is a good idea!!

Get a nice big fillet steak, wrap it up in some tin foil with some unsalted butter and some rosemary, stick it in the oven at a very low heat for a long time and it will come out perfect. Serve with some thick chips, salad and crispy onion rings.

Or the most comforting meal in the world, The Yorkshire Sausage Wrap!!!

Cook some really nice thick cumberland and lincolnshire sausages, make some nice creamy mash and finely chop in some spring onions.

Then what you need is one of those pre made large yorkshire puddings( pre made work better in this case trust me), stick that in the microwave for 1 min until its hot but soft, spoon in the creamy mash and 3 sausage, then fold the yorkshire round the mixture and flip it over so the yorkie is secured, sprinkle plenty of cracked black pepper and then cover in onion gravy. absolutly delicious!!!

I second the steak idea. A lovely thick sirloin or my personal favorite ribeye would be nice. Servce them with homemade chips, a garlic mayo dip and some rocket.

Coat the steaks in a little oil and some pepper and let them come to room temperature.

Now you want to get a frying pan reallly hot but not so its smoking. (Do not add any oil to the pan) .

Lay the steaks in the pan and you should get a nice sizzle. Leave them for 2 mins and then turn to the other side, you can now add a knob of salted butter and cook for a further 2 mins.

Take out of the pan and let them rest for about 5 - 10 mins.
