Whtiney Houston Sets Date For Comeback Album - Excited?
Simba76

It was a long time coming - almost to the point that many doubted it would ever happen - but now Whitney Houston has finally announced a release date for her comeback album. September 1 is the day that it is due to hit shelves. It comes seven years after the release of her last album, Just Whitney. This is one of the few positive headlines Whitney has enjoyed in recent years, but do you think the gap has caused fans to lose interest, or has it increased their appetite?

I think most of her fan base has died of old age by now.

There is still an interest, if she comes out with a great song she can easily do well again.

I wonder what damage she has done to her larynx though, with all the drugs she was alleged to have been doing in pipes and spliffs with Bobby Brown...

No I'm not to be honest, I think she has left it too late for a comeback. Bit like Michael Jackson.

Apologies for the typo in the title... I'd change it, if I knew how...!

I'm very excited, can't wait just to see what her voice sounds like!!

Although, in my opinion, I believe she was one the best singers in the world, there's no point expecting it to sound like her live performances in her prime (pre 1996).

But, from watching her performances in the past 12 months it's obvious that she is at 10% of her formal vocal glory.

I also think it won't be a success because she won't be singing "Whitney" songs. Although Clive Davis said they won't make her fit into the current music scene, i still think the best way will be to sing the classic VOCAL songs ; upbeat or ballad.

Think she is a little overrated, all this greatest voice ever bullcrap her mentor puts out.

Enjoy Leona more.

I'd like to be excited. I loved her 'back in the day' when she was at the top of her game and I still listen to her music regularly. But I'm very doubtful she still has 'it' to be honest. If the alleged drug taking is true I can't believe it wouldn't have had some negative impact on her voice. I'd like to be proved wrong but I'll only be able to believe it when I hear it.

No not in the slightest. I never really thought much of her first time round. As for the ott reaction to I Will Always Love You was laughable. She murdered it.

Some people forget though like many other singers, she suffered from vocal nodules during the Bodyguard era (93-4). She was advised not to sing but sang anyway, hence the change in her voice in the mid-late 90s.

To be fair, it isn't just her mentor who says this Quite alot of other people say it too regardless of him

True. But, I also think cigarettes played a major role too. But the nodules were definitely a major factor

Sorry, I didn't meant to imply it was only the nodules . Apparantly Mariah Carey's had them since she was little

Yep, Mariah has had them since she was very young. It is those nodules that allow her vocal chords to make very tiny gaps, and thus gives her the whistle register. It's also partly those nodules that allow to belt so high. If she removes the nodules, it could seriously damage her voice so she opted out of surgery. The toll her voice has taken due to her nodules is clearly evident throughout her career Most notably (and shockingly) on her performance on XFactor last year

With the right set of songs and the right marketing she'll be back in the Celine and Mariah marketplace

I don't doubt that with a September release, we'll see her as a guest artist on the X Factor, possibly in the final. I'm sure Simon would be deperate to create another Beyonce buzz like last year (especially as Leona's Management in the States is also Whitney's)

Having seen her live and at her best, she was (and hopefully still is) an astonishing vocal artist

No doubt a residency at the 02 is in the offing (and I'd love love to be there) It would be great to see a positive example and mesage of someone beating their demon's and coming out of it on the other side
