No Programs Recording

I must be doing something wrong. Because of a suggestion of possible file corruption which caused some problems previously, I formatted my drive and took the oportunity to also move as much as allowed to video.

Everything went smoothly (I thought), but I now cannot record anything at all. Everything on the schedule list disappears after the set time but the program does not appear on the Media List. I have tried immediate recording but that doesn't work either.

I did repeat the format but the situation remains. Just as well I have still got my 9200 connected otherwise I would be in serious domestic trouble.

Have I missed something can anyone please advise?

Can you pause a live TV transmission and then fast forward it ?

If I remember, you were also going to do a factory reset. Did you do this, then rescan for channels and save the results?

Have you got a fully populated EPG?

Have you re-set all of your Timers?

Are you selecting programmes to record in advance from the EPG, or just making instant recordings?

Did it look like it was recording? Did you see the Rec on the front display, or the Channel icon on the left of the TV screen when you press "i"?

Have the recordings just gone to the root, whereas you were expecting them in a folder?

That's all I can think of to check at the moment.

Rgds.

Whoops, duplicate reply. Sorry

It's not looking good. Can you upload a photo from USB to the HDD.

If you ain't got one there's a 1920 x 1080 one here

This is very strange.

I'm not sure you can answer a blanket yes to all of my questions, but forget this, I can understand the blind panic you're in right now.

If you can't record, and you can't pause Live, this could indicate that the box thinks the Hard Drive is full, when it isn't.

I'd put it in standby, switch it off, unscrew & check both of your cables in & re-seat them firmly, factory reset, format again, factory reset, and then start from scratch.

If this doesn't work, I'd say your HDD was on it's way out before, and it's now gone, but I can't understand this on a relatively new box.

Good Luck.

Hi Les

It's a very odd problem, I would have thought that the format would have failed if the hdd had expired. The OP can also change partition sizes which would also indicate the stb can access the hdd.

Graham

Afterthought which way was the allocation slider dragged when he changed the partition sizes ?

Sorry for the delay Graham, but no, I can't download the photo from the flash drive on to the PVR.

Les, I did move the slider when reformatting the right direction as it shows the maximum now on video/radio side.

Do you think it's worth reformating again and then factory reset?

Sounds like the HD has gone but resets and formats cant hurt.

Sorry for the delay, Gordon, I've been down to the Gym.

It doesn't sound good at all, but the reformat & reset can't do any harm starting from clean again. But it does sound as though the HDD is going/gone. I have had a PC HDD on the way out, just about complete a format, but then ultimately fail.

Give it a go.

Rgds.

Hi Graham,

Yes normally, with a total fail, but it may just about manage a format, and have also marked so many bad sectors, that it then can't do anything, so it doesn't look good at all, unless it's got itself in a tizz with it's file allocation table corrupt, and another reset/reformat kicks it into action again - here's hoping.

Rgds.

I would have probably just exchanged it under warranty.
I'd rather have a "new" HDD incase it was failing.

From the depths of my memory I think I read somewhere that a factory reset with both LNB cable disconnected did something different. I have no justification for this, but it might be worth a shot.

Thanks to everyone for their advice. Ive never had this situation before with Hard drives in PCs but the situation has now been resolved.

It took two passes and three resets (plus two which I did initially) to clear and all seems well now.

It would be interesting to know what caused it in the first place but the fact that multi formats and resets did the job may help someone in the future with a similar problem. It was sheer despairation on my part.

Hi Gordon,

Thank goodness for that !!

As I said previously, I suspect you had filesystem corruption on your HDD, as evidenced with your strange recording names/folders issues previously. Who knows what could cause this - box in the process of writing or deleting then a power cut/surge/spike?

Somehow the first file format did not cure this, but in fact seem to make it worse, I suspect totally screwing the file allocation table (or whatever the Linux equivalent is), making the box think your HDD was full.

Your final formats/resets seem to have corrected the problem.

However, keep a very close eye on it, and if any of the symptoms start to re-appear, then suspect your HDD is failing, and get the box exchanged immediately.

Rgds.
