Help im going mad with worry please about that the Mother of our just over 5 week old kitten and we are very worried and not sure on what to do.

Our Kitten is 6 weeks old on Sunday and during the night the mother got out and has not come home yet.

the Kitten has started to eat kitten food now but will she still want and need the mothers milk??

We have got some kitten milk powder should we give kitten that? if so how offen and for how long? if mother does not come back.

Please help.

The kitten should be just about weaned by now (I've had kittens of 6 weeks), so won't need the mother for that. Cats that are eating cat food don't really need milk, but there's no harm in putting down some until the kitten's onto a full catfood diet. Feed the kitten little and often - it will do just fine.

Having said that, the mother will know that the kitten is nearly ready to be independent, and she may well just have gone off on an expedition and will be back shortly. Our cats have sometimes disappeared for up to 36 hours, especially in the summer.

Kittens can wean at about 4-5 weeks if necesary, particularly if it is a small litter and they are well-grown, strong kittens, although many will suckle much longer if the mother allows it, not least because, like humans, it can also be about comfort, security and bonding.
It may well be that by now Mum is getting a bit stir crazy as she would have been leaving the kittens for periods for some time now if she were an outside colony cat or a feral cat, as she would have to go out to get food.
You can give kitten milk but it isn't entirely necessary and if the kitten hasn't had it before and isn't used to it be careful you don't uset its tummy.

I'm not sure how long it is before a female cat can get on heat again after having kittens, but maybe this is a possibility? She's felt the call of the wild and is out on the pull!

The kitten should be fine - mum will probably be home soon. And in a few weeks you'll probably have more kittens.

But in the meantime, do the usual. Posters, leaflets through letterboxes, knock doors and ask neighbours to check sheds, garages etc. Even hang out an unwashed sock so she has a familiar scent to home in on.

It's dead easy to shut a cat in a garage. We've got one with an automatic door, and one of our cats got stuck in there for a few hours last week - I thought the noise of the door closing would scare him out, but apparently not. I only figured out where he'd gone when I went to lock them up for the night and he wasn't there.
