The "What if there'd been a full series 5 this year "thread

Just suppose we were getting towards the climax of a series 5 being shown right now , with Planet Of The Dead as it's opening story. Then with Waters Of Mars and the upcoming xmas double header as episodes 11-13. What kind of stories would you have liked to have seen in the middle of the series. Personally , I would've liked to have seen Davids incarnation face the Zygons and maybe a return for the Sea Devils. Perhaps the latter could've made up a two parter , as with episodes 10 and 11 last year being Companion Lite and then DOc lite respectively. Bookend the story with 10 telling his companion about a previous adventure his eighth incarnation has with Lucie Miller. McGann and Sheridan Smith , then get a tv adventure to themselves. Whatever enemy they faced in that "10th Doctor Lite " adventure , then re-appears in the Waters of Mars or maybe even the finale

Yep David facing his fave Zygons would have been wonderful thats something that is sad that he never got to face them.. who knows though maybe he'll face them on the big screen if this movie gossip turns out to be a RTD/DT project ..

I would have liked a Jackson and Miss Hartigan return in this DT series 5 that could have been. Two characters who were developing nicely imo and had lovely chemistry with DT.

~I'd have liked a Ten,Jackson,Donna story ...

Moffatt will have already been in charge, and the 11th Doctor would already be on screen

Or Moffat would have taken control on Series 6 and 11th Doctor would still be on screen next year

Well DT (and I believe RTD also) have said that these specials are to aid the transition, and DT has already said he only planned to do 3 years the specials are a bonus so it's unlikely DT would have been playing the Doctor if this was a full season.

According to the Writer's Tale....RTD had always planned to do 4 series'....never a fifth one.....and he had told DT about his plans as far back as when they were shooting Doomsday....so he had a plan in his head then too (so nothing to do with him going off and doing Hamlet for those who still think that is why we have the specials this year)

No but we're both speaking hypothetically here. We both know why we didn't get a full series this year but we lost one because of these specials. We could easily have seen a 5th series this year ergo Matt Smith taking the reigns on Series 6.

Never mind though, we got 3 more specials and a new Doctor to look forward to.

But Factually speaking, RTD was asked to do a fifth series, and he said no....they could have easily just asked Moff to take over then and there, but as they wanted RTD, he said ok to specials....so basically the specials are there because there is no fifth series for 2009, not because there are specials and that is why we haven't got a series....they wanted a gap year....

I've just enjoyed the fantastic Victorian two parter featuring the return of Sutekh, Jago and Litefoot, Mr Copper, Jackson Lake all battling together against the Master's steampunk zeppelin fleet.

That's the spirit mate. Just checked on IMDB and they have the kitchen sink down as playing Rassilon in the finale

If you think about it , come the first week in July, we'll be back to the normal gap we've had in the first four years of new Who between finale and xmas special.
Except

We have The 10th Doctor appearing in two episodes of the SJAdventures.
We have an Autumn special
We have not one but two xmas episodes
