Been listening to them loads recently

Listening to "A'rebours" now , i think its been said before but Pete Doherty is the closest to singing poetry i can think of

*Awaits "Doherty is a smackhed" comment *
Probably...but it wont be from me (although one cannot really argue with the fact that Pete does do smack)! For me Peter's the best lyricist of his generation and you've hit the nail on the head- he's not just singing words, he's singing poems. Just look at the lyrical quality of Time For Heroes, Up the Bracket, Music When the Lights Go Out, Albion, Delivery, UnBiloTitled (with the equally wonderful Peter Wolfe), Sheepskin Tearaway, 1939 Returning, A Little Death Around the Eyes, Lady Don't Fall Backwards...I could go on all night (and probably would!). He's not to everyones taste and I dont have a problem with that (the only time a get annoyed with Peter haters is when they wish him dead- thats just out of order) but the boy is under my skin and will stay that way for life I think!

Personally, I don't consider Take that to be a band . . . .

Personally I'd say Oasis, or U2. They outclass everyone, imo.

I don't have a favourite band, there's a lot of great music around at the moment

Radiohead are still the best after all these years. They are so good, check out the 'From the Basement' videos on youtube.

I'm in coplete agreement with you. Best British band of the moment for me is Babyshambles

I'm going by a band that has an actual album out at the moment, so it has to be Kasabian, excellent new album.

i'd like to say Oasis , they are the best band in britain outright alongside Radiohead, Coldplay and U2 etc .... (by the way are U2 british , i'd argue they are in a unwritten rule)

BUT at the moment i'd say the Arctic Monkeys , their last 2 albums are better than Oasis's last 2 , but not "Def Maybe" and "Morn Glory"
Seeing as how U2 are from the republic not sure how you can claim them to be British - also very much doubt they would ever claim to be a British band, what's the unwritten rule?

Don't know about best but my current favourite British band would have to be Snow Patrol.
