I think the trick for BBC HD will be plugging holes due to repeats of HD with shows where two HD shows have clashed.

it might be far to early to say this, but when Eastenders does go HD, I could see it moving to the same time slot all 4 days on BBC 1, possibly 7:30 with Doctors at 7pm

On a more general point, why all the secrecy anyway?

Apart from the fact that ITV have made the same assumptions about TW:CoE broadcast that we have, when we have (nothing to stop them reading this thread) they just aren't competing and don't have enough to compete with if they wanted to. After 9pm they only have Simon Cowell freakshows and "I'm A Celebrity" to rely on.

Up here, STV aren't even passing on most of their drama (Benidorm, Sharpe and Kingdom have all been ignored).

the BBC Press Office is always like this, anything that people actually want to know the date of, even when its VERY guessable (once you know the week its on) will put it on Unplaced, its very annonying.

As for ITV at 9pm that week, think its a normal week

but ITV at 9pm at the moment is rubbish

Monday 29th: Real Crime
Tuesday 30th: Ladette to Lady (the Aussie version of the former ITV show
Wednesday 1st: Cops With Cameras
Thursday 2nd: Trail & Retribution (rpt)
Friday 3rd: Doc Martin (rpt)

Torchwood week, 9pm Wednesday on ITV is TBA, but the rest of the week is the same as the previous week.

Indeed, Press Office annoying. ITV rubbish (on a sidenote, STV are OK with a repeat of "Doc Martin" but not first run dramas!)

Well as a previous post said about whether they could have a double episode one night or were they still going to show them over consecutive nights.....

http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchwood/

Says
Quote:
“In one epic story told over five nights the new series, to be broadcast for the first time on BBC One later this year.”

So that says 1 episode per night, and all 5 episodes are appearing "unplaced" in the same week number....

So that points to one episode per night - probably consecutively - though if there is a big cliffhanger at the end of episode 4 they may skip one night and put it on the night after (thinking monday - thursday then skip to saturday) so that they can keep the suspense / anticipation etc which the media will jump on hence raising the profile of the series.

Just a thought....

It can't go on before 9pm and the 10 O'Clock News is pretty immovable (except for ruddy soccer).

All five episodes appear as "Unplaced" for week 27, so this means that (excluding any changes, which I think are doubtful) all fiove episodes will be shown that week.

And my own view is that they will be shown Mon-Fri at 9pm (with a BBC HD simulcast), with Hotel Babylon being postponed that week, and any other HD channel schedules being rejigged.

Not gonna happen. 7.30 would clash with Coronation Street, and 7pm is The One Show's timeslot. Doctors at 5.30 with Weakest Link returning to BBC2 is what I wanted to happen when Neighbours defected to five, maybe it will happen at some point. If EastEnders gets the same timeslot every day, it'll be 8pm.

As for Torchwood, cobaltmale, they could do a double episode, but only if it starts on Sunday or finishes on Saturday. Can't move the 10 o'clock news on a weekday, can on weekends.

ok 8pm is an option to, if im honest I picked 7:30, as I thought

7pm Doctors
7:30pm Eastenders

would make a good HD Soap Hour, and im not sure you want Doctors on any later than 7pm, it is still a daytime drama.

I think you're getting us both wrong there.

I assumed Charnham was talking about the HD channel, and you're actually agreeing with me on the second point (we had ruled out Sunday by then)

no I was suggesting EE move to the same timeslot on both BBC One & BBC HD. I am aware this could cause problems for the whole "BBC & ITV agree not to air Corrie & Eastenders at the same time thing" but it could be arranged so all 3 shows have set start times, even more so now theBill is moving to 9pm.

OK, I stand corrected. 8pm for EE would be better, as it won't clash with even "The Bill" anymore.

the only other problem with 8pm Eastenders, is a show like HolbyCity, and you are going to end up with more 30minute shows on BBC primetime, either at 20:30 or 21:30

..... why are we now discussing the merits or otherwise of different scheduling options for the soaps?

for fun, plus I happen to like Eastenders, and would not like to see it move to the wrong timeslot.

Plus its not like Senanta is providing is a minute by minute update of how they far they have fallen into the tar pit, and how soon they expect to call the administrators in. I dont think we are going to see any real movement on that till Monday

I guess they mean there's nothing else important till discuss till then.

I like the idea someone mentioned of taking a day's break.

However I don't think they'll go back on the consecutive nights claim now.

They'll find some way of pulling it off, probably by not simulcasting the HD airing and putting that on later or even the next week, promoted as a second chance to see this event TV and this time in HD, avoiding rescheduling too many already running shows in the same week.

To discuss*

In other torchwood news:

http://torchwoodtv.blogspot.com/2009...-to-comic.html

The show's panel for Comic Con has been announced.

It's the same as Doctor Who's one (RTD, Julie Gardner, Euros Lynn) only with John Barrowman as the actor on the panel rather than David Tennant who is Doctor Who's.

A very good panel this year then, although I'd have rathered Moffat than Tennant on the Who panel (he could have make his first and last panel appearance next year when RTD's gone) and David-Lloyd (Ianto) on the TWood panel somewhere (who was excellent at Gallifrey One).

No .

I didn't realise how it sounded till afterwoods, hence why I changed it to something clearer.

Hate to throw a hypothetical spanner in the works but has it ever been confirmed that TW is going to be in the 9pm slot? I can't see it happening (event TV demands an audience), but isn't there a chance they could schedule it after the news at 10.35pm?

Just playing devil's advocate.....

No way Jose.

Apart from expecting people to stay up to nearly midnight five weekdays in a row, you're then talking about moving stuff like Jonathan Ross on Friday and Question Time on Thursday.
