Hello fellow 'who' fans!
was watching several episodes of 'dr who' series 4 last night (saw 'Silence in the Library' on bc3 and decided to watch a few more on my boxset!
) and having pondered about the true identity of river song, particularly as a result of the other thread on this forum that theorizes on the same question, i was wondering about future comapnions.
one thought particularly hit me as a really interesting storyline (don't know whether this has already happened in old 'who but anyway...) in that imagine how interesting it would be to have a companion that the doctor didn't know everything about, ie that there were things that the companion was hiding from the doctor, so part of series story-arc would be the slow reveal of of the true identity of the comapnion. this would fit really well with the river song storyline, for instance if a future companion was to turn up and then it was revealed to the audience that the companion was river song (so we essentially get to see them two at the beginning of the relationship) but then the doctor doesn't find out for ages. and obviously the companion is initially unaware of the future relationship between them so it's not an issue until the doctor finds out true identity and then......
ok, so this seems like a load of ramble with definite hints of fan fiction writing but the point i'm trying to make is that i think it would be really interesting to see a situation where the companion is hiding information about themselves from the doctor, so for the first tim, he doesn't know absolute everything and anything! would put him in a VERY interesting position when whatever was hidden came out....eg what if the companion turns out to be a spy for one of the doctor's many enemies....??
anyway, any feedback on this rambling musing is more than welcome- would be great to hear wht people think about the role of companions and whether the doctor would ever be in a situation where he has a comapnion that betrays him or lies to him for an entire series!
