Peter Pan on ITV HD

Surely this is upscaled SD? It's terrible by HD standards, and looks no better than SD DVD imo. Rubbish!
If this is the best they can do, they needn't bother!

There was a film on recently too and that looked horrendous, literally worse than a DVD. That was an old one too.

Obviously they are transferring it to HD but the source is so poor that theres no benefit to doing it.

Disagree completely, it's definitely native HD, you can see it in the texture of hair, faces, and clothing, far more detail than ITV1 West Country.

I agree with you jzee, I too checked out the West Country feed and compared my region and HD. The picture in HD along with your comments I found created so much more depth to the scenes, the part I caught was on the ship and the sd version I found lacked distinction in the foreground and background, also when the ice began to crack in HD the cracks seemed to disappear into the deepest of voids and the SD were just a greyish haze

OK here ya go, it was quite difficult to find some good comparisons as ITV1 West Country was transmitting at around 8.5Mbps so the difference is less than usual, the cropping from 2.35:1 also probably reduces the resolution a bit (but that would apply to the SD version too presumably):

tinkerbell- SD version on left clearly has less resolution

wendy- clearly see more detail in hair parting on right, eyes are sharper, freckles clearer

parrot - HD version on right has more definition- lines on eye, marks on brass latch & beak

more detail on boat and in the sea in HD version on right
