Not announced yet. Which seems very odd to me. In the past, it's always been announced when the actress is announced.

Agreed. They did it with Freema, but with Karen Gillan (I think her name is) they haven't despite releasing an official photo. I suspect Moffatt has requested to withhold this info until RTD/Tennant bows out.

It will probably come out just as they start shooting. We may get official photos of Doctor and companion in their respective getups and then it's likely they'll reveal her character name. Either that or the set spies will hear her name being spoken and report it.

I will Laugh my @$$ off, if she tuns out to be a young Donna Noble.

Does anyone ever think that perhaps we read too much into how things are done? I haven't searched the forum, but I'm sure there must be speculation about her being Donna, River Song or Romana.

So they haven't announced Karen Gillan's character name yet. Perhaps it's simply down to the new production team. Maybe RTD liked fans to know the companion's name from when the actress is announced, but Moffat doesn't want to do it that way.

Or maybe he's having fun because he knows it will start all the Donna Noble, River Song, Romana blah blah speculation. Perhaps it will be one of those characters, but I really think it will be a completely new companion. Personally I don't think Moffat wants to drag anything form the RTD era into his.

Wasn't Donna only known as 'the Bride' when we first saw her?

It's possible that leaking the name would be a spoiler, but it's equally possible that it just hasn't been decided yet. Maybe they had a name in mind then decided it didn't suit the character as Karen played her, or perhaps they wanted to give the actress a say, so didn't choose the name until after casting her.
