Sim card compatible for calls but not texts
Dear all, I have an LG Viewty on contract with around 5 months to go and which is dying on me. The screen is bleached out so that I can hardly read anything on it. It's becoming worse. I thought I'd be able to put the orange simcard from it into an old phone - an Orange smartphone - so wasn't particularly worried. I've transferred it over to the new phone and it's fine for calls, however if I try to text I get a message that the card is incompatible. It doesn't receive texts either. This seems very odd to me and I've never experienced it before, I've often transferred cards between phones in the past.
Can anyone suggest a reason for this, is there some sort of setting I maybe need to alter? Or alternatively, is there any way of fixing the Viewty? Thanks, Jan |

Hey Jan321, have you checked the service centre or message centre number is stored correctly? For Orange, it should be +447973100973

Thank you, that sounds possible. Now to find where that setting is on this phone. I can't see anything obvious, I'll try and find an online manual.
Thanks very much indeed. Jan |

Have you had any luck finding an online manual? I've got to admit, I've drawn a blank so far..

No, but I only have dialup as I can't get broadband where I live so everything takes an interminable length of time. It will be quicker to search the house, I'm sure I have the manual somewhere. Your solution sounds to be the one though, so I'll repost if I can't get it to work. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me

Really sorry to bring this one up again. After this discussion I managed to get the Viewty to work so put this on the back burner for a while. However the Viewty is back to its old tricks again with a bleached out screen so have tried to do as discussed previously. When I transfer the sim card to the smartphone everything seems to be fine, eg internet, mms, phone calls, it's just the sms that don't work. I eventually found where to enter the message service centre number (which had been blank) but it won't stick. I enter it and save it but next time I go back in it's blank again.
I may ring orange in the next few days as I believe you can take a new contract out in the last couple of months of the current one, just so I can get a new phone. I'd really like the next generation of orange smartphone but I gather these are no longer produced. However, if I can get this old phone to work for me, then I can stick it out till the end of the contract when I would probably get a better deal. Thanks for any advice. |
