I have a boring goldfish.

Ever since i was 3 yrs old i was an animal lover especially little baby animals!.

Kitten or Puppy would be my dream animal i am jealous when i watch other people have pets and i am not allowed any pets in my flat and my mom says she doesnt want me to buy a hamster or any pet because we have a small house.

Is there a way i can secretly buy a pet? and keep it somewhere in the house or maybe the garden, although that is shared with other residents.

If you are not allowed any pets in the flat remember that you may be putting your lease in jeopardy by breaking the rules. If you think not having a pet is not fun, try being homeless! Listen to your mom - she sounds like a wise woman.

P.S. nothing boring about goldfish - they are fascinating creatures.

Nah, hiding a pet would just cause so much trouble. Aww, I feel for you, though- I'd hate not to be allowed pets.

Oh well. One day you'll move out and can have all the animals you want.

How old are you? Have you thought about offering to walk other people's dogs for them?

Do you still live at home with your parents? If so I wouldn't go behind their backs if they've said no to a pet. One day you may find yourself living somewhere that has the space for many animals, until then you've got to wait I'm afraid.

Don't buy a pet if your mum doesn't want one because it's her house and and it's not fair on the animal if you have to keep it hidden.

Also remember kittens and puppies can be hard work and mostly they don't stay little, cute and fluffy.

That sounds rather unfair on the pet.

That's a good idea and OP can then see how much work is involved.

Why would she have any say in what you do in your own home?

And you can get just as attached to them if you are playing with them every day. I walk someone else's dog for her, because I have to walk mine anyway, and he's almost like family himself now.

I have a friend who's a professional dogwalker, and some of her regular dogs are almost like her own pets.

If you're old enough and would just love to be around animals you could offer a dog walking service. Card in the window of your local newsagent might raise a bit of business...

(edit - yes you're old enough!)

What about a career working with animals, you do sound as though you love animals.

you sound very childish for 19 IMO. Why do you need to ask if there is a way you can secretly buy a pet? Surely at 19 you are old enough to work that one out for yourself

At 19 you're would also be old enough to be prosecuted or sued if any of the dogs you are in charge of get into trouble
If you are going to do this for your own protection and that of the dogs and clients you should have third party liability insurance and professional liability insurance.
You should also get some experience first so you know what you are taking on.
Dogs are not all the same in terms of size, strength, behaviour, level of training etc.
If you have a branch of Dogs Trust or an RSPCA re-homing center near you you could offer to be a volunteer dog walker there where you should get guidance and be doing it under their liability, and often staying on their premises.
Or you could volunteer as a helper for any other local rescue/rehoming centers near you.

Since both our cats died last year my OH has been set against replacing them for too many good reasons to go into.

I do miss them though.

If you do get a pet I suggest a dog will be more suited to you since cats kinda get moody and indipendant when adult. Dogs stay more playful and puppy like esp if they feel they are lowest in the pack. Pick a playful breed too as it sounds like it might suit your personality better.

Thats all the advice I have.

All people are different - 19 year olds are not all the same. Some are just younger at heart than others.

OP - I agree with the dog walking idea. Or get a part time job in a kennels. Sounds perfect for you

There aren't many pets you can successfully keep in secret. In fact, I can only think of stick insects and they aren't cuddly.

Dog-walking or a part-time job involving animals seems the best idea.

It's a bit odd to ask your mum whether you can buy a cat when you buy your own house though, don't you think ?

Although maybe there's more than just immaturity here.
