Spoiled? Timothy Dalton is a MASSIVE guest star for a British television series. There is no way his appearance won't be plastered all over the media long before the episodes air.

It's not impossible that he would have been revealed at the end of Waters Of Mars and then had his appearance splashed all over the media between then and the final two.

Exactly. The casting of Timothy Dalton is not a spoiler in any way, shape or form. We don't know who Dalton is playing and he has never appeared in Doctor Who before.

And the fact that they haven't officially confirmed it by the BBC....proves that such a big star appearing in a show like DW is a blooming huge spoiler!!!!!! And one that those who have managed to avoid it so far...ie those who don't also read the scummy newspapers (I only know as my google mail gets bombareded by links from these papers as I have Doctor Who news on alert).....would have had a nice suprise......
Listening to DT and CT on the radio quite sometime back when they stood in for Ross....they seemed as if they wanted to keep CT's appearance a secret, but unable to as they had outside shootings to do.....so I wouldn't be suprised that they were also very keen to keep such a big star as Dalton hidden as long as possible......
The topic has been covered in a lot of the media, Timothy Dalton's presence is hardly a secret. As for what he may or may not be doing - well, speculation can be fun while we wait!

Exactly. It's not like it gives any of the story away. There's no need for anyone to get their knickers in a twist simply because they know he's in it.
Out of interest, those of think it is a spoiler, what exactly does this spoil for you? I mean how does knowing he is in it (with no other detail) specifically limit your enjoyment upon seeing the episode?

Well as I pointed out.....the fact that the BBC or the DW team haven't officially confirmed it, probably means that they wanted it to be a suprise....I know for a fact if I wasn't so spoiler mad....this would have made me feel so
at seeing him.....maybe in the trailer at the end of TWOM.....I guess its a bit like not knowing that Rose was in PIC...and I think if it hadn't been for the filming that had been captured by fans....I doubt they would have said anything at all regarding Billie being back in series 4....

rose was an estab1ished character and had associated baggage,,,it automatic1y meant something to fans of the show to know she was returning
the casting of td means nothing unti1 we know who, what, where and why he is in the episodes and so is not a spoi1er

The return of a major character such as Rose Tyler is obviously a spoiler. The casting of an actor with no detail whatsoever about his character* is not a spoiler. You would literally have to live in a cave to avoid all mention of Timothy Dalton's casting until the trailer at the end of The Waters of Mars airs.
*Although Mr Dalton has been seen in a very interesting costume.

I don't mean in terms of character, as your right, I and others don't know who he is playing....however those that have seen the photo....will know that it is a very intriguing if nothing else....
What I mean is that shock moment.....as I said, there must be a reason to why they haven't released any conformation unlike they have for Bernard Cribbins, Lindsay Duncan, June Whitfield ...and so fourth.....who are equally as good (or even better) actors....same with John Simm, who if people are trying to avoid, will now know for sure that the Master is back in some form or another....some people like suprises...so do I...but I am weak...so I am not saying don't spoil it for me...but just those who have somehow managed to avoid it....brave souls!!!!

Well believe it or not some have managed to avoid it.....and they don't live in a cave(well I hope not
)...and one is a friend, who doesn't read the papers like the Sun or daily mail....(as I don't think the Guardian are botherd with such things) and she doesn't visit some of the sites either...although sites like OG (not the forum) and Kasterborous have been good enough to not spoil it either....with big warnings ahead....and giving people the chioce to read on....despite the fact it is plasterd all over the internet otherwise....So if we see TD in TWOM trailer...it will be a nice shock for her.....
