Be careful - the Official Chart Company are notorious for threatening legal action against people who publish chart information without their permission...

Which is a shame because you can't find the charts online anymore.
What's happened to http://www.dotmusic.com which I sued to all the time for the top 75 and year to date chart. It hasn't been updated since 21 December!

You are right, I am careful. In this case, the majority of the figures were published in Music Week and I am therefore quoting sales that are in the public domain.

Throughout the year, I will use a mixture of real figures (giving the source) and estimates.

It baffles me which poor souls are still buying Shane Richie, guess it's the charity factor keeping it going

Any chart stats about for last years total album sales?

I haven't bought a single in years. I buy albums mostly. I know lots of people who are like me. If I like a group/singer then I just get the album, by the time you buy a single you might as well buy the album.

Has anyone else stopped buy singles?

Does anyone know what the sales figures are for Leave Right Now and for Friday's Child? I mean total sales since the release dates.

Maggie, sales for Friday's Child have been roughly 200,000 each week since release, so Will's album has definitely sold 1 million. I don't know the figures for today, but I'd imagine they have dropped with this week being a well-established slow week. So my estimate is 1.1million.

His single had done 350,000 a week or two ago, so it should be at 400k by now. All of which gives Will 1.5 million total sales since November 28th. What other artists can manage that, eh? Apart from Dido and the odd other...

I wasn't far out then! But are you sure that Friday's Child hasn't passed 1 million yet? It hasn't dropped below 200k per week and has been on sale for 6 weeks.

I would estimate 1-2 million. He will have done 1 million in UK by the end of the month.

If that's true, his record Company are asleep because Friday's Child is still only declared as double platinum (Dec 12th). Highly likely to be triple by now, I have to admit.. But...

Have the sales figures been published by them?

Thanks for all this info. I like stuff like this .
I think the next chart may be a bit different. I hear Michelle sold over 100,000 last week.

Album sales have been calculated by referring to issues of Music Week magazine, which sometimes gives figures.

Singles sales are my estimate, using figures from various sources.

The record company have, of course, to apply to the BPI for the album to be certified. They may be waiting until it has actually sold over 1,000,000, and gain more publicity by announcing the sales figure.

Sales overall are slightly up on the same week last year. Girls Aloud were number one on 18-01-2003 for their fourth and final week with The Sound Of Underground. They had just 33,471 sales, so Michelle McManus’ total is a distinct improvement.
