I caught his video on TV today for the first time.... I feel embarassed for him.... but then no... it sums him up really.

The song is terrible, i remember thinking the same when he same it on Fame Academy, totally 1 dimentional drivel.

He looks scared in the video, he's hiding behind a huge guitar and has no visable personaly on the cheap stage they've given him to jump around on.

Basically this guy should give up now, take the Sneddon route, work behind the glass and write records, you're no pop star pal.

and so that was that.

however, much as i have no time for the BeeGees, they are nonetheless some kind of musical legends, apparently, and so when one of them says *hey Al! how about we make a record together?* you don't tend to say no....

so you don't go *hmmm i like the international quality of his voice....*

for such a legend, Mr Gibb seemed surprisingly clueless on FA.

According to another forum, quite a few of his fans are buying between 10-20 copies each of Bring it Up (freudian slip).

I think it's a fairly catchy song. Glad they let him release his own composition, but he's just not got 'it' TBH.

Still, he's got a Top Ten single to look back on in his old age. More than any of us.

I wouldn't buy it - but I really like the song. He's done well with it.

He is one of those people you either love or hate. If you love him, you LOVE him. Explaining why some people buy so many records.

Shame's its destined to be a one-hit wonder career. Hey what ever happened to that Ainsley guy from last year's show?

Ainslie has an album ready to release but is in dispute with his record company I think. This is what I've picked up from FA sites.

I'm going to make a collection of these. It's quite astounding that there are so many different ways to insult someone , using so few words. Make them into one of those little booklets you get given by your sister at Christmas.

(This year she gave me a 'The dictionary of playround slang')

That is what they said about The Cheeky Girls.

Maybe, just MAYBE, you could give people the benefit of the doubt instead of judging their entire lifes work on their first attept.

Perhaps he is releasing this song as a way of gaining recognition from a song he sang on FA. Maybe he doesnt like it that much himself.

You never know!

Stop being so cynical

It's very catchy, but it has two main problems, I think. First of all, the lyric is meaningless. That doesn't matter for a novelty song like The Fast Food Rockers, but this is meant to be some kind of call to arms. It doesn't work when you don't hav a clue what he's on about. They seem to me the kind of lyrics you write in the shower, and you come up with a really catchy tune, and then you don't rewrite the lyrics. Phil Collins did this the whole time - Love In The Air Tonight is just what he was singing into the mike as he improvised, pretty much. Didn't do badly, of course - but then he was fairly well established, and somehow those lyrics are ominous. Bring It On is a bit of a wet fish lyric.

Second problem is that he and the song are out of date. He would have done well in the late 80s, early 90s, perhaps, when Del Amitri, Gary Barlow, Deacon Blue and the like were still around. But in 2004, nobody really listens to this kind of thing anymore. He'd have to grow some stubble and put on a beanie hat, but even then, he's far too lite to ever go the Badly Drawn Boy/David Gray route with any conviction. I can't see him being around as a performed for very long - he may have a career writing for boybands, is my guess.

Another average, bland singer who'll sink without trace after five minutes. I only realised he was from Fame Academy last week. Still, at least it's better than Amy Studt's insult to a Sheryl Crow classic...

very probably. this is why i rate someone like Bono as a great singer, yet people will still disagree with that.

Still, at least it's better than Amy Studt's insult to a Sheryl Crow classic...
isn't Amy's almost identical in every tiny way to the original tho'?

I heard that Sheryl provides the background vocals for Amy's version so Sheryl must approve (no doubt to help flog more of her greatest hits album!)

That Amy Studt single is a complete disaster.

It is exactly the same in every way except she sings in TERRIBLY compared to Sheryl.

That's what I always thought about him. Nice guy but practically zero charisma. How he got the reputation of being "the funny one" in FA I'll never know. All he did is repeat The Office scripts.

And I agree the song is cack!

Well you don't have to travel far to compile it.

Just click on the little magnifying glass under Ron Jeremy's post and start taking notes....

This is not exactly unheard of behaviour for lots of artists' fans.

I have actually had the suprising pleasure of seeing this guy sing live and he really can do it! I think most of the audience didn't know what they were going to get when they saw Alistair on the bill but all seemed to be pleasantly surprised! He seemed very comfortable on the stage. A promising start in live performances.

Amy Studt was also on and she sang a certain little Sheryl Crow number. It really went down well. I must admit that it sounds ten times better live as everyone knows it and it gets people on their feet whereas the single just falls a little flat. IMO of course

Funny that because when I met him he was witty and charming.
Maybe he was knackered from the constant travelling trying to promote his single or just sensed you don't like him ?

He has also been known to join a group of fans for a drink (paid his way too !)

A lot of people who like Alistair agree that BIO is not his best song but it was the one chosen by A&R for him to perform on the final and consequently it has come out as his debut single.
The video is a P*** take based on some comments about him by RP I think.

Let's see how the album fares when it comes out next week.

MacAttack were you referring to Nottingham XS ?

I agree he went down a storm-very cheeky performance

The way you speak you don't sound as if you are an Alistair fan. I'm wondering why you took the trouble of queueing to get an autograph?

I personally think he has done brilliantly to get No.5 in the chart with Bring It On considering that he hasn't had that much publicity for the single, the lack of radio airplay and the stock problems in many areas (which is still happening this week too!).

By the way, he's on Top Of The Pops on Friday if any of you want to watch and possibly change your minds.
