My cat came home one day with a huge swollen eye. it actually looks like someone may have kicked him, as there were no scratch marks on him to indicate a fight.

Now he's healed, the pupil in that eye reaches vertically to the edge of his iris in both directions, like it's split. Has anyone ever known this to happen? He's fine in himself, and appears to be able to see OK, but who knows

I don't want to take him to the vet as he gets so stressed and goes off his food for ages afterwards, and he's thin enough already!

Does his pupil react to light? By that I mean, does it get smaller if you shine a light in it or get larger if there is less light?

Yes it does still react to light.

That's good. I think I'd probably take him to the vet to be on the safe side though - just in case he has some sort of intraocular infection. That's not intended to scare you but an infection inside the eye can occur with traumatic injury and can be pretty serious. Hopefully he doesn't but it might be better just to have him checked out.

Thanks, no sign of infection at the moment. He gets in a complete panic going in a basket to the vet. I dread having to take him. I think I'll leave it and at the first sign of infection will bite the bullet.

He's always been an outdoors cat. He's 13 now, and I think a bit arthritic, looks a bit scraggy to be honest. But so very affectionate and I love him
