Steven Moffat has now officially made his first Executive Producer decision that I love.

According to the new DWM the 2010 series is to be officially called Series 1 from a production standpoint as an acknowledgement of the complete change in production team.

What will all those people who insisted on calling the last four series Seasons 27-30 do now!

Does it matter?

Weep?

I think it's a great idea. Although since it'll clearly follow the Doctors' time Line with all the previous Docs' memories for me it'll always be the 5th Series.

But it does make you anticipate the obvious changes that there'll be and makes you look forward to it more.

Not to me. But there are plenty of people who do seem to care for some reason.

What an incredibly pointless decision.

Personally I don't give a stuff either way

Could cause some confusion to people buying DVD box sets.

I'd personally call it season 5. It is essentially the same show.

It is seemingly from a production standpoint so I guess that is what they will refer to it internally?

It sounds as if calling it 'series 1' from a production point of view wont effect the actual series still being called series 5 in the 'public domain' , i.e series 5 box set will still be called series 5.

I should think.

So , will it have seperate copyright from the four RTD series we've seen so far. In terms of using characters from the RTD era , like Jenny and River Song maybe?
Or perhaps clearing the way for the rumoured movie featuring 10.

Does anybody know if DWConfidential will continue to be on air and have the same production team?

Unlike with the Original Series owns everything. (One of the reasons why RTD and now Moffat comes up with the basic plots for each episode.)

The boxsets will probably refer to it as series 5, they could however call it series 1 version 2 or series 1.2 but I doubt it. Too confusing for the kiddies.

For my archive collection puposes I shall still label it as Series 5

(just like I decided I shall archive the Xmas 2008 thru Xmas/New Year 2010 episodes as Series 4.5)

They'll probably take this as confirmation that they were right all the time.

Which they weren't.

I could see the sense in restarting from Series One in 2005, but this seems odd...

They're officially part of Series 4. (4.14-4.18)

Using that logic does that make Peter Davidson the First Doctor (again...)

I agree - I also think this will cause some confusion for younger viewers and for the DVD box set. However, I don't see the point of this, most people will be thinking of it as series 5 so why bother!?

And maybe, for public consumption as opposed to production (team) consumption, it will still be classed as Series 5. _

Yes indeed, that point has just been made to me by someone else actually and I agree. Good point. That makes more sense doesn't it. However it still begs the question why are they bothering referring to it as series 1 at all? Maybe it's just me!!

Maybe because it's a completely new production team, and for them this is indeed their first series (as in "Series 1)? Plus, it gives them a sense of breaking away from any ghosts of the past production team.

Okay....I think I have an answer to all the problems!!!! the classic series started off as Season 1....New Who started off as Series 1.....why doesn't Moff call the next show Term 1........that would get rid of any confusion.....and Moff and fans wouldn't have to choose between season and series!!!!

No??????

Oh well

This is a stupid decision. It should definitely be series 5 and I'm sure the DVD will have that on it.
