Where did Noel Gallagher choose the name for his group?

The consensus from google seems to be it is after the oasis leisure centure in Swindon where the inspiral carpets played a gig, some say Liam had a poster for it and others that Noel was roadie on it.

All I know is its not after the high street fashion shop (be funny if it was though)

Noel was a roadie for the Inspirals. Liam was in the band first and it was called Rain, when Noel joined following being a roadie the name changed to Oasis.

I always thought it was Liam who came up with the name, from the leisure centre.

Noel was a roadie for Inspiral Carpets, Liam joined a band called the Rain, hated the name, saw a poster on his and Noel's wall advertising an Inspirals gig at the Oasis Leisure Centre, liked the name, called the band Oasis, then later Noel joined the band. Or so the legend goes.
