Post your credit crunch busting recipies and creations here. Things which are healthy, don't cost much and are preferably easy. (Just so I can steal some)

I just had a veg stir fry cooked with water instead of oil. I chopped a garlic clove and mixed it through it, then opened a can of tuna (with olive oil) and mixed it through when it was on the plate.

I had a very cheap stir fry.
Last week got a bag of peppers for 5 pence from ASDA. 5 red and 1 green. At the weekend had a curry

Basically this, though the original was from a Madhur Jaffrey book. Got 3 servings out of the sauce with frozen chicken.

Also at the weekend got a rump steak from ASDA for £5 per kg. That's over 1/2 price off the usual price. Used the best part for a steak & chips.

Tonight had a stir fry using the steak, green pepper and noodles (soy, garlic, ginger, a couple of spices)

Still got a piece of the steak left in the freezer. So i'm guessing about 5 meals for around £4 quid for the main ingredients.

So I guess the point is to look around for good prices or reduced prices. Usually the produce is perfectly fine and it's just stupid laws that mean the supermarkets have to almost give it away. Good for us
Infact, I was in Lidl about a month back and they were giving food away.

Pulses are a godsend in terms of filling, healthy and cheap foods - with a chickpea and spinach curry (as long as you've invested in your spices at some point) you can get about 8 servings for a couple of quid. Lentil soups, curries and casseroles are also good, split peas for soups and dips, black eyed bean and pinto beans for chillis and salads - the list is endless!
Mushrooms are another great staple if you can't afford meat - as the main ingredient they are usually less than a quarter of the price as well.

I microwave mushrooms. I also put a little cheese on them. They come out like steak.
