That's interesting, because I wondered if the HD had been pulled for some reason. I watched Paradise Lost last night in SD because the red button didn't appear. This was on Anglia South. We did have a power cut for an hour late afternoon, but everything appeared to be working after it.

It was mess via Sky HD too. the screen kept going black every thirty seconds or so. The ads were the same.

We ended up on 103.

Indeed I watched "live" and it kept flickering. I gave it till the first add break then tuned to the SW feed. Almost as good as ITV HD(without the faults)

It's because of a technical fault and often afflicts ITV. It's known as UMS.

'Useless Muppets Syndrome'.

Red button didn't come up on my screen either but I pressed it anyway and it switched to the HD transmission but after a few minutes the picture broke up a few times and it automatically switched back to 103 (ITV TT N).

I tune to ITV AT 9.10pm for Paradise Lost using the HDR and got not red button option for HD but if you press the red button anyway you got the HD Loading flag then a blank screen except the blue button flag for returning to SD.

After giving up on the HDR I switched to ITV HD via my Technomate and got the programme in HD but a little bit ropey from normal quality with a break in transmission of three seconds within every one minute or so leading to me giving up and watching something else.

One other thing that was strange, there was no ITV HD logo in the corner of the screen, perhaps ITV are feeling a bit of a let down to them selves and we viewers so did not want to put their name to such incompetence.

Typical ITV - no point in compalining (as I have learnt), they either say they are "working on it" - which basically means they have passed it to the chimps in the technical playroom at the local zoo. Or they tell you to buy it on DVD when it is released.

And yes the DVD quote is true and an actual quote from Viewer Services regarding another mess up by ITV in the HD department!

Since it went off air at 10pm, upscaled ITV1 has been broadcast instead of the usual caption on Sky HD.

Perhaps they're fixing the problem?

I watched my recording of Paradise Lost it this this morning.

There was one brief spell that lasted for about 2 seconds that was actually in HD.

Enjoyed the proggy, a bit sad at times though.

Upscaled is better than nowt but the continual drop outs were very annoying.

Perhaps all will be well again for next time. But then again they may forget to switch to ITV HD ever again and we'll be lumbered with the upscaled poo.

They are actually using the technical chimps now? Cool. That's an improvement

But, yah. If ITV aren't already ashamed they should be. How long has ITV HD been 'broadcasting'? There's over two dozen HD channels broadcasting by satellite in the UK (and yeah, kick me but I have access to most of them) and I know of only one that has persistent problems. Only one that shows so little stuff that it can't even be called a channel.

Some if it is because of the lousy finances of the FTx broadcast model but ITV should take responsibility for most of it.
