Some supermarket salads contain more fat than a Big Mac
Who would have thought the humble Big Mac would contain less calories than some supermarket pre packed salads?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...t-Big-Mac.html About time they abandoned putting the calories for 1/2 the contents of the packet, surely a standard method of displaying the calories and fat so we can all see what is in all of the packet? |

I'd imagine it's due to things like cheese and mayonnaise in the pre-packed salads. It's the reason I avoid them (not weightwatching, just don't like either). G |

I make my own salad dressing out of olive oil, balsamic vinegar and Dijon mustard. This way you can control the fat content and still have a tasty dressed salad.

If I am having a lazy day and want to pick something up I tend not to go for anything 350 cals plus salad wise.
Tesco are awful - their pasta salads are all 500 cals +. I find M&S quite good actually. You can pick up both a pesto pasta salad and a feta and tomato pasta salad for less than 350 cals..... BUT that is the small pot - they also do a larger variety and that is what catches people out. For example the M&S pasta salad the DM refer to is also sold in a smaller pot and whilst it is still calorific it's not 700 + Cals

As far as supermarket salads go I love the pick your own salads! Delicious! I rather like Morrisons as the pasta is not smothered and dripping in mayo. It just has a covering, something Sainsbury's don't do!

Sounds like a regurgitation of an old story. The same stories were appearing when McD's went all healthy and it was reported that their own healthy saldas had more calories than the burgers. All down to the dressing apparently.

SALAD DRESSING CONTAINS CALORIES SHOCK HORROR.
They'll be telling us takeaways are bad for us next. |

Yeah, it's the fatty gloopy stuff that does it, although, I doubt it's as unhealthy as a burger - at least the actual salad contains all sorts of nutrients and isn't heavily processed.

It's a disgrace, if you are going to eat rabbit food, you should at least be rewarded by it being healthy

There's absolutely nothing wrong with unhealthy foods in moderation. If you eat nothing else then you get fat. Simples. |

It's like quiche lorraine. People think it is good for you just because it comes from France. But in fact if you just called it what it actually is - "Bacon, cheese and egg pie" - no-one would touch it.
