Help buying a needle for my turntable
I dont have a great turntable but ive managed to find out that the company that makes the needle for it is called Audio Technica. However the few sites i looked at are quite expensive. A few years back i bought a double pack of needles from a record store for £15. However i do plan on upgrading my turntables and sound system to something better soon and am just wanting something cheap just to get my by until i do upgrade.
Does it matter which needle you buy? Like i said i dont have a good system so as long as it plays and sounds ok im fine. I just thought online....for one needle, i could have got a better deal than spending another £15. |

You can get all sorts of different carts ranging from budget options to hideously pricey beasts....depends what you are using them for, obviously the pricier ones often deliver a fuller tone and range but the price also could suggest particualr ruggedness and balance for turntablists. So if you arent a budding DJ kraze then ya dont really need to bother..
but you can get a cheapy for about a fiver I would have thought. |

The needle is different from the stylus isnt it? I thought the stylus was just the bit surrounding the needle........To be honest i have a huge vinyl collection but its only for listening. I don't mix or anything. Ideally i'd love to have a decent turntable and some really good speakers. From what i've read i need an amp...........but i can start another thread nearer the time about that lol. I'm just wanting something very minimal but still getting amazing sound.
It seems as though the cheapest i can get is £10 off Ebay but then it lists all these catalogue numbers of turntables it will fit. My turntables were part of a budget set. That was a good few years ago now. |

Obviously i know the model number of the turntable but i cant get it to match up with the type of needle thats on it. It's a different company. The only way i find out the type of needle it was was due to me reading an online review of the set.

I would think someone specialising in turntables like maybe Richer Sounds would be able to help you? If you bring in the old cartidge (or take pics of it) surely they can order it in if they don't have it in stock? Always found RS very helpful and knowledgeable.
