Guide not updating
carvell
26-06-2009
I've just hit 'guide' and it's been sat there for about 5 minutes now without having updated.

Is this happening with everyone or am I going to have to reset my box?

Blimey thats wierd I just tested mine and the picture came up behind the epg in about 2 seconds (HDR)

edit just testing the old humax HD box that appears to not up date the epg gonna try factory reset on that one

^^^^ thats cured it.. IIRC the last time this happened was after a rogue auto freesat scan might I suggest doing a rescan not the factory reset first and seeing if that cures it and that way you won't have to go though changing all of your preferences or having to re-tune the non-freesat channels

I aborted the updating in the end, then clicked 'guide' again and it "updated" in about 2 seconds.

Have now clicked guide again it's just sitting there as before 'receiving programme information' without updating.

Bizarre.

Just done a rescan and it's working as it should, so that solves the problem.

I wish I had now now doing a non-freesat scan and going to have to re-order them later oh well such as life

oh yes and don't forget to reinstate ITV HD reservations after the rescan

Right I had the 2 second thing happening as well. I switched to Non-Freesat mode and Shorts TV (on the same transponder as the Freesat data) was off air. This was confirmed by my FTA box. A few minutes later whilst I was pondering what to do and looking out the window at the dish Shorts TV just re-appeared on its own. Pressing guide now and the box is just sitting there.

A number of other channels (such as Clubland TV which is on a different Transponder) were also missing at the same time as Shorts TV and those are back as well.

Edit: Seems strange that a re-scan is needed. Again what happens if you are away from your box for a length of time (i.e. on holiday). More bugs rearing their ugly heads?

If you do a freesat scan and after the scan press exit and choose not to save the results then it solves the problem and leaves your ITV HD schedules intact.

Barry over at hummy.org tested this last time it happened for a week if I remember rightly. It had no effect on scheduled recordings

Forgot to mention you need to reboot otherwise the epg is just blank after the usual 30 sec

But it's not the rescan that's the issue here though Graham it's the epg data not updating that would cause a problem with failed recordings or have I got the wrong end of the stick did Barry not allow his epg to refresh for a week?

You've hit the nail on the head. As long as the EPG data does update itself and the scheduled recordngs keep populating after the 8th day following the guide problems then it's not a big problem to re-scan it upon returning (from holiday for example).

Is this what Barry tested?

In a nutshell Barry did not do a freesat scan and although the epg appeared to stall it continued to update OK. A auto rescan terminated the test
