I was at home, my usual Thursday night ritual with a takeaway and a few bottles of wine.

I first heard on Twitter that he had been admitted to the LA hospital after suffering from a heart attack and then someone posted that he had died. I was half way through the DVD Poltergeist as we were having a big thunderstorm and thought it would be a cool DVD to watch during it but straight away I turned to Sky News to watch the live coverage.

Shocking wasn't the word!!

I was watching AC/DC video on YouTube and someone posted a comment 'Michael Jackson is dead' O_o

I was on DS, saw the story reporting that he had been taken to hospital and my initial thoughts were that it was probably a minor scare blown out of proportion... then I looked on the forums and saw that TMZ had reported that he'd already died...

By this time the headline at the top of the page was 'Michael Jackson in coma', which, when it was confirmed, finally changed to 'Michael Jackson has died'.

Oh, and then there were endless Facebook statuses (some respectful, some less so... )

The power of the internet hadn't really hit me til then. To see that kind of story develop minute by minute... incredible.

After that TNT show went off on channel 4 last night and reading the news on here at the same time.

I saw the TMZ article like a couple minutes after it was posted My sister didn't believe it at all so went to bed!

I'd gone to bed early as I'd been out on a hike with friends which turned out to be a hard climb up onto a high rigg in the heat - so was exhausted. My daughter had forgotten her key when I let her in she said there was a rumour

My two favourite memories - I was 14 years old it was summer, I was doing homework on a sunny afternoon in my parents kitchen - I had taped the Jackson Five and listened to 'I Want You Back'- my father had been very ill - mostly Michael's clear pure voice cheered me up.

In the 80's I'd just had a baby, was in a bad marriage, lived many miles away from home and felt lonely and sad holding my beloved daughter on my knee - Thriller came on the TV - it was so odd and attention grabbing it took me out of myself - I thought it was fantastic and scary.

Facebook.Then I turned on Sky News.Saw it was true and turned it off because I knew we'd be in for 24 hour coverage.

Today at 6.30. Work up, really tired, thinking "what boring stuff is going clog up the news today". Then, when they said "Michael Jackson, the singer..." I was like "haha as if he died". And they said. I just jumped up from where I was sitting. Of course by the end of the day, or by the end of my first lesson in school, it has already sunk into a certain extent. Not that I don't care, but I was thinking about it and I had other things to do. And we barely talked about his death. Only in the morning, and for fun, one of us played one of his Jackson 5 songs.

I went onto Digital Spy and it said he had been rushed to hospital. Initially I thought it was a minor illness then when I got up for work the next day I flicked the telly on to the ITV Morning News and there was people talking about Michael Jackson saying that he died. I checked Teletext just in case I misheard and it turned out to be true.

About 0630am yesterday, was about to leave to go to work when I bumped into my flatmate, who'd just got up, he said "Jacko is Dead", I said "yeah right" and he said "no its all over FaceBook man".

He's a bit of a piss taker at the best of times so when I got to the bus stop I checked the BBC News page on my mobile and to my horror it was true.

I just cannot get over it, I don't think anyone can.

I agree, I'd rather they did something like Queen did for Freddie, have a massive concert to celebrate his life and music. Something positive.

Yes I think they will. He is JFK in the music world.

Well to many he is a former music star with an unhealthy interest in children.

On the flip side - Many think he was a musical genius who changed the face of music. He was found not guilty of those charges remember.

But many believe he was guilty, rightly or wrongly. He was a drug addict who had sleepovers with children.

Listening to all he had to say on the matter to me he was telling the truth when he said nothing improper had gone on - we weren't there so in the end we can't really know for sure one way or another. It depends how he saw himself - to me he was a child-like figure trying to recapture the childhood he never had.

My personal opinion is that, having been denied a childhood when he was a kid, Michael decided to live through it during his adult years. He engaged with children because they were what he wanted to be, and probably behaved with them in a way which would seem innapropriate to most, but to him was just second nature.

Regardless of what went on in his personal life, the music and the talent was undeniable. I just wish some people would focus on that at this time instead of all the rubbish that went on during his later years.
