Just woke up on Friday morning, lying in bed. Switched the telly on and got the terrible news. I was shocked and very sad to hear of his passing.

I picked up on the news an hour or so earlier when the newsreader announced that he'd been rushed to Hospital and was not breathing. I thought it didn't sound promising and positive.
I was upstairs in my bedroom when my Dad switched on the news again and suddenly heard the newsman announce that he had passed away. I was in shock when he said it. I thought I was hearing things, I just couldn't believe it. Very sad and such a loss of a Musical Genius and the greatest legend of all time ever. |

I woke up on Friday and was about to go to school when my Dad came and asked if we new anything about Michael Jackson. He said he'd seen something on the news with people with flowers and words Rest In Peace Michael Jackson across the screen.
When I went to school everyone was talking about it and when I got home I looked on Yahoo and saw for myself... |

My personal opinion is that, having been denied a childhood when he was a kid, Michael decided to live through it during his adult years. He engaged with children because they were what he wanted to be, and probably behaved with them in a way which would seem innapropriate to most, but to him was just second nature.
Regardless of what went on in his personal life, the music and the talent was undeniable. I just wish some people would focus on that at this time instead of all the rubbish that went on during his later years. |

I was watching Big Brother
whilst posting here and saw the red banner annoucing he'd been rushed to hospital. Then I noticed someone had started a thread about it and it said he was in bad shape.Flicked onto Sky news in the break of BB and saw the reports on there, then all these unoficial sources started to claim he died. Went on Twitter and saw Ryan Seacrest and Perez Hilton had twittered that sources in the hospital had told them he'd died. It became pretty obvious then that he'd passed away, just had to wait for the official confirmation which came through shortly afterwards. |

I was in bed chatting on msn and had the radio on. They announced that they were 'just getting reports that he had been rushed into hospital with a suspected cardiac arrest' and I told my friends (one of who is a MASSIVE fan of his) and we spent the rest of the night looking at the news channels/websites to find out what had happened and talking about it.

I was at my prom, and towards the end a friend told me he'd had a text off his dad saying Michael Jackson had had a heart attack. I was skeptical at first, but another friend confirmed his death and showed me the internet on his phone. I was totally shocked, and been sad ever since

I was at a Malaysian restaurant in Hull with the organisers of a gig I'd just done about topical poems!
Earlier one of them had agreed with me when I said that I felt closer to Hull because I'd been involved in reporting (even in poetry) on it's news stories and he said he felt somehow more attached to where he'd been at the time of 9/11. He went out for a cigarette and the other organiser was telling me that she used to carve grave stones and they had to have 160 characters- the same as Twitter. Then Colin came back in and told us he'd had a text about Michael Jackson dying. Then he went online on his phone and it was confirmed. It felt even more surreal because of what we'd just been talking about. We told the restaurant owner and he was really sad- and I think we felt a bit guilty for breaking bad news just because we wanted to be the first to tell it. We talked about the possibility of Tweet obituaries. The topical poems thing has ended up continuing because people were still sending poems about MJ. Strange timing. (They're at http://www.writenewspoems.com I felt like I used to when I was a radio journalist-feeling the shock of something at first but then feeling distanced again at the point of seeing it as a story. |

I was on a night out for a friend's 18th. We were just about to make a move and a friend who'd got a text said 'Michael Jackson's dead'. I just started laughing and then he said 'No, really, Michael Jackson's dead'.
I was convinced and thought someone was playing a prank, then they tried to get on the internet but they couldn't, so there was a burst of confusion before other texts came in and news started spreading round. Then I managed to get on to the BBC News website through my phone and there it was - I was stunned. It was completely surreal and I was still in total disbelief. Still am to a degree! |

To be honest, I was blind pissed coming from the pub and then I browsed the net and I couldn't believe it. When I woke up in the morning I was thinking: "Did I just dream that MJ is dead" but unfortunately it was not a dream.

I was about to go to bed, the TV and laptop were off when I decided to check a forum I moderate on my phone. They were talking about it on there, so the TV and laptop went back on and I ended up having a very late night.

I was watching Friends (The One with the rumour (the crappy one with Brad Pitt...)) and my Mum told me MJ had been rushed to hospital and to turn on Sky News. I told her i wasn't interested in any more MJ gossip. Then when she told me he had died i just didn't believe it. Me and my mate were talking online saying that it had to be a hoax (we both had tickets to see him in August
)It wasn't until the yesterday morning that i realised that it really had all happened. For some reason i woke up and about 5am and instantly checked the BBC news site on my phone. It took until last night for it to sink in. I've been watching his music videos all day. |

I was out at a picnic with all my mates. I came home and went on Twitter quickly and one of the trending topics was "jackson cardiac arrest". My heart sank. I was in shock. I soon found out it was TMZ reporting the story so went on there to find out more.
I didn't believe it at first. I went through to my sister, hand over mouth to tell her. We immediately put on Sky News who weren't reporting it. Neither were BBC. I just kept refreshing the TMZ page who eventually had the picture of the ambulance. Sky News then started reporting it. My heart sank even further. The news kept coming in..."he's in a bad state", "he's getting CPR" until I refreshed the page one further time and the headline read "Michael Jackson dies". My eyes filled up. My hand went over my mouth. I told my sister who started to hug me and the rest of my family who had all coincidentally walked in the room. It was strange that everyone was in the same room as news of his death broke. I was in shock. It didn't really hit me. I refused to believe it until a news channel started to report it. About 5mins after TMZ updated and I found out Sky News started reporting it. BBC soon followed. I just broke down. I stayed up until 4am watching and re-watching the news. I was in shock. It finally hit me yesterday when I went for a walk up to our local shops to pick up the papers. The newspaper stand outside read "MICHAEL JACKSON IS DEAD". Listening to "Wanna be Startin Something" in my headphones with my aviators on, my eyes filled up. It had hit me. |

I was at home, my usual Thursday night ritual with a takeaway and a few bottles of wine.
I first heard on Twitter that he had been admitted to the LA hospital after suffering from a heart attack and then someone posted that he had died. I was half way through the DVD Poltergeist as we were having a big thunderstorm and thought it would be a cool DVD to watch during it but straight away I turned to Sky News to watch the live coverage. Shocking wasn't the word!!

I was at the pub and me and one of my friends got a text at the same time but from different people saying that he'd died. So then the landlady went upstairs to check on the news and then the landlord came down with her and put the news on in the pub. (Because the pub was technically shut by then and there were only a few of us still there).

I had just got in from my friends house around 1030pm, logged onto facebook and my friends had it as their status. Then the news confirmed it shortly afterwards.
