I've bought a second hand Vauxhall Vectra (without sensors), and one of the options when you buy them new is to get parking sensors fitted.

Can they be retrofitted by Vauxhall?

I know you can buy those stupid DIY parking sensor kits from eBay and Halfords, but I'd like to have the genuine Vauxhall ones if possible

You can get them fitted but it wouldn't be cheap.

why do you need Vauxhalls to fit them there are loads of companies out there that do this type of work and far cheaper.

Presumably, yes they can fit them - but be prepared to pay through the nose

What's wrong with the "stupid" kits from Halfords and the like?

The kits from 3rd parties look a bit cheap and nasty - especially the displays, switches etc.

If it was the Vauxhall one, I'd know that it would all be intergrated as it should be, with the button in the right place and a decent quality of install to boot too.

You can get a cheap kit from Maplin for £20 at the moment - I bought one the other day. Very simple to fit, and invisible in use if you tuck it away behind a panel or in the boot somewhere. It hooks into the wiring for your reversing lights so only comes on when you're backing up, and just beeps increasingly frantically when you're about to hit something.

Its likely that Vauxhall won't retrofit a genuine Vx kit, they'll likely fit an aftermarket one and charge you ALOT for the pleasure. Best bet is to find a local installer who can do a decent job for a reasonable price (approx £100-120 incl parts as a ball park).
If you want to try and fit one yourself I would suggest trying something like the targa numberplate sensor which is basically a numberplater holder with two integrated sensors on it (so no ugly holes in your bumper). I've driven a car with one of those fitted and it worked very well. There are a few specialised vectra car forums around they could probably give you the best advice

Very easy to fit. If you take off the bumper it is likely to have markings in the moulding inside where to drill the holes. The wiring breaks into the reversing light cable and a switch is only needed if you have a requirement to switch them OFF for towing which would interfere with the sensors.

Halfords do THESE, but not sure if they are any good.

Ive seen the pictures instore and it seems as though they flush fit them into the bumper. You can pay a bit extra for colour coding.

Bear in mind that main dealers like Vauxhall don't do this sort of thing every day, smallish auto electric companies do, so have much more experience. Not sure how well trained, if at all, about Halford's staff.

This company offers parking sensor kits for many cars, Vauxhall Vectras included. Prices don't seem too outrageous:

If you click on Fitting Service in the left-hand menu, you'll see that there are fitters in most parts of the country.

The Maplin kit I mentioned comes with a choice of sensors - ones that you need to drill the bumpers for, or self-adhesive ones that you can mount without holes.
