See this thread, here .

This is a bit worrying, if it becomes more prevalent (OK, the whole underlying financial state of some of the channels is more worrying), as the HDR often uses the +1 channels to offer Alternate Instances to record in sorting out your scheduling conflicts.

Rgds.

I deleted all the +1 channels, they are of no use when you have a PVR, especially when its not guaranteed they will even be showing the program thats due on.

I disagree, they are especially useful if you have a PVR. Because of the amount we record, I would have lots of conflicts between 19:00 - 22:00, most of my C4 recordings actually take place on C4+1, as offered by the HDR to resolve potential conflicts.

The point of my post was to highlight that this would become hit & miss, if the +1's don't actually show the programme due to repeat fees/costs.

I would disagree, they are of great use with a PVR, allowing you to avoid programming conflicts - and certainly in my experience the +1 channels have always shown the correct programmes a hour later than the original channel.

Ive hard every found 3 things on at once I have to record that arent repeated later in the week.

Certainly not enough to have dozens of useless +1 channels

Thats what I mean, I might have use for them once or twice a year but wouldnt use them anyway because its not guaranteed they will be shown anyway. So I say even if you do use them, they are worthless.

They have not been worthless up to now, I've always had success with the +1 recordings, not one ever failed due to not showing.

Again, the point of my post was to highlight the impact should this become more prevalent.

I understand that but the +1 channels are such a niche that I highly doubt anyone will go through the schedule and delete programs from the EPG that arent being shown.

I don't understand the point you are trying to make, here.

Spot on! The +1's are very useful, not only for clash avoidance but I also used them before I had a PVR due to late arrival home etc.etc. The "not available" is a slight irritation and again I would agree that it occurring more frequently would be an issue. Horses for courses ....

I think they are worthless and a waste of an EPG due to pvrs.

Even if I didnt have a PVR and would want to use them, I wouldnt because theres no guarantee what you think should be on will be on.

I used to work for the company that produces ITV's EPG data and supplies it to Sky (and others). I believe that company also now supplies the Freesat EPG. In my time we did replace the programmes we knew were not being shown with the "This is ITV2+1" dummy EPG entry, and I still see this entry when I watch through my Sky box occasionally. If you don't see the "This is..." EPG entry for a blocked programme, drop a quick email to the ITV duty office and ask them to pass it on to their EPG listings provider.

Thanks for posting this, as it has prompted me to ask you a question that I have mulled over many times, but had no "expert" to confirm.

I have both a Freesat box, and a Freeview box, and often see differences in Series Link recordings on the two platforms. Can you describe how the EPG metadata is put together, and whether the Freesat & Freeview data is input separately, or do they take their data from exactly the same tables? I'm particularly interested in Series & Prog CRIDs.

Many thanks.
