Nah they always do stupid shit like this for the twist.

Remember the secert partners in BB6, that sounded awful and it was, but BB6 still turned out to be one of the best seasons.
The secret partners sounds great on paper, but when you think about it, the first person to loose a partner had nothing to lose by blabbing, and essentially, thats what happened (Janelle told Kaysar if I recall).

They'd already started figuring it out before Ashlea went I think.

But what I meant was Secret Partners souned bad in the sense that it meant lots of people knew each other and that they were kind of playing as pairs. But the season actually had very little to do with that, as you say, the pairs were exposed early on. But the season was good because of the housemates and the rivarly between the two alliances.

Yeah they figured out about the partners without about aweek (well it would be longer depending how long they've been in the house) but a week from first show to 4th show.

DIdn't Julie also announce it on an eviction?

For a few seasons there has been the recurring rumour that Big Brother would actually seek out and find people who had been bullied in school and then, through investigation, find the 'Bully' in questions and then invite them onto Big Brother. Of course neither knowing the scheme.
Something like BB4's 'Ex-Factor' twist in which many House Guests walked in, and to their surprise recognized an ex-boyfried or girlfriend. To their horror. One Ex-GF promptly had sex with another unrelated Player which sent the Ex-Boyfriend (already suffering from extreme anxiety) into a psychotic reaction and was pulled out by security and mental health people.
Anyways...
... a huge complaint about BBUSA has been that nearly every season they have many Players who (surprise) know other players.
It TOTALLY SCREWS THE VERY BASIC PREMISE OF BIG BROTHER and I absolutely ****ing hate it,
but,
maybe the biggest problem is that those schemes really haven't worked. Some of the seasons were not bad (bb4 and bb6 for examples) but not because of the secret pairs/secret partners/secret lovers etc.

As for this 'theme'... thats another thing. The 'themes' dont seem to work anyways.
and,
In this case I would ignore making 'teams' (again blowing the natural experiences and dynamics) and just simple cast accordingly.
Cast three very smart academic/genius thinker types.
Cast three 'outsider/unpopular' types of socially awkward oddballs.
Cast three muscled sporting types.
In other words - just cast them and then allow natural social dynamics to create its own cliques.
I don't need to have it spelled out, organized and then probably make them wear certain clothes and sit in different rooms etc.

BB10 USA actually went a long way back to correcting itself and getting back to the ideas and concepts that made it great in the first 3 seasons. Not perfect but definitely they did a lot of repairs.
It was closer to '12 complete strangers of different walks of life meeting for the first time.' and credit due - BB10 did get back on track for the good.
So,
I really hope they don't go blowing it by falling right back into childish stupid stuff like this makes it sound.

Sounds awful.

Personally I thought seasons 4-9 were ruined by people knowing other HMs and not necessarily being selected for wanting to play the game on their own part.

This sounds like it will avoid the worst of 4-9 but it'll be interesting to see how it goes.

It can work if pulled off properly. The twin twist worked brilliantly and the secret partner twist didn't affect BB6 because of the housemate selection and subsequent events. The problem that BB4 and BB8 had was the inherent inequality of those housemates stuck with exes/nemeses and those who didn't. BB9 UK also suffered that with the producers pre-determining Luke and Stephanie, setting them up for failure.

I thought the partner twist did effect BB6 in the long run as it was obvious a large number of the people in there didn't really care about the game, have any knowledge of it etc.

For instance, it was obvious Sarah was just tagging along with James and didn't belong there. Similarly April really had no desire to be there and was just overall an awful housemate.

In the end all the 'true' housemates picked were probably better strategically and the 'doubles' selected just dragged the quality of the season down overall.

In fact it was James who had no idea what Big Brother was. He was recruited through Myspace, he hadn't even heard of the show before.

I read that Sarah was actually a last minute replacement when Jame's original partner pulled out. I think it was his brother who was meant to be going in or something, but apparently they wanted James so much, they asked him to find a new partner, hence Sarah's naive gameplay

It was horrible watching Sarah get screwed over. She was seriously the sweetest housemate on BBUS ever by a mile.

I liked James too, apart from those dodgy comments regarding the Iraq war. But as a player I enjoyed watching him in both seasons.

More info from Alison Grodner:

* Highlights from WeLoveBigBrother.com’s interview with Allison Grodner
* Four groups of three
* Not like season 9 soulmates where BB forced them together
* This is still an individual game
* Big Brother created a system where you want to be in the ‘in-crowd’
* Each player wants the perks of being in the in-crowd
* If one member of a clique wins Head of Household, other members of that clique cannot be nominated
* Allison did not say a room had a ‘jungle theme’
* Third bedroom is ‘one of the worst rooms in Big Brother history’
* Instead of traditional Food Competitions, there are now ‘Have and Have Not’ competitions
* Losers of the Have and Have Not competition are subject to worst living conditions in BB history
* Have Nots subject to a cold room, cold showers, food restrictions, and bright lights that never turn off
* No details regarding the 13th Mysterious Houseguest will be released until July 9th
* Starting second week, viewers will decide the food restriction
* The Have Nots will get slop in addition to America’s food restriction
* The exercise bikes and lightbulbs might come into play later this summer

Thank god they still compete in challenges as individuals.

James wasn't unfamiliar with the whine whenever things didn't go his way, though. Coupled with his resemblance to a Republican porpoise, I just could not give him my blessing.

I'm sure he was crushed.

Hold on! Are you refering to chicken George and Howie?

Sorry, but if so, I'd have slapped that man senseless! Howie was well in his right with the outbursts! That is one of my Top 3 BB betrayals! Love it!

True, though I cut Howie a little slack. He was an overgrown adolescent at the best of times, and if he'd knocked a hat off anyone else's head, it would have been different.

Not that I encourage violence. It's just... Mike Boogie, you know?

I'm now reminded of how poorly the All-Stars season went for almost everyone.
