ONE HIT WONDERS - Best / Worst
Just had the misfortune to hear
''Dominque'' by the singing nun - a 'toon' I thought I had lost from my consciousness but unkindly jerked back into memory. It was a one hit wonder - no prizes for guessing why. Are there any truly khak ditties out there that actually stir up good feelings? Why? |

For me I think the best one hit wondered was Deep Blue Something - Breakfast at Tiffanies but that is due to personal reasons. Worst one hit wonder was Daphne and Celest or whatever they were called. Truley awful

I guess that no-one here is checking the record books on these supposed one-hit wonders.
Most that have been quoted weren't, even if the follow-up/ups were lower placed or less remembered. Sorry folks. G

Considering my user name, one of the best has to be Whip It by Devo.
As well as some mentioned above, who had a hit a few years back with something like 'Don't give up, you have the music with you' (or something....) Pretty in Pink - Psychedelic Furs Emerge - Fischerspooner (they may have had another hit, for all I know.....) Spirit of Radio - Rush (though not one of their best) Groove is in the Heart - Dee Lite Last Night a DJ saved my life - In Deep Einstein a go go - Landscape Did Joy Divison only have the one hit? Freeze by Cut La Roc is good too, but I pay virtually no attention to the chart to know if that was a one off. |

Have to agree about Chesney....A Classic!!!, As was Tiffany 'I think we're alone now' . technically not a one hit wonder as she did have other hits, but fantastic. Depends how you identify a one hit wonder, if its the only top 40 hit, neither of these apply. (I could be sad and name the offending follow ups with my rainman like knowledge of dodgy eighties pop but somehow it just feels wrong.)

Inner Circle are massively rich thanks to the Cops theme and the movie Bad Boys, Whigfield sold quite a few singles and the Rembrandts had quite a few albums not just the theme from Friends. Which i'd like to point out was released twice in two years and hit the top 10 on both occasions! John Sedaca wasn't a one hit wonder either... Just look at how many of his songs are on those "Time Life" 80s compliations !!

A happy ending though, as she is now a lawyer for a music company.

Think the term 'one hit wonder' is not fully understood by many people.

Re Devo, AFAIK in the UK, Whip It was their only top 40 hit. Shame, as they have a lot of other great songs. They've also been covered a fair bit, by bands like Nirvana, Soundgarde, RATM and Fu Manchu. Oh, and Waylon Smithers.
