Continuity challenge.....
Jakes_stuff
28-06-2009
Is there anyone out there who would be brave enough to try to compose a complete continuity with the show on tv, the virgin missing adventures, virgin new adventures, the bbc book eighth doctor adventures, the bbc missing adventures, AND the audio adventures.....

I know that most people only consider tv broadcast adventures as canon, but for fun, lets pretend its ALL canon...... so, is anyone up for the challenge??

It sounds a good idea but like the daleks you will get factions. Purists versus non purists.

That, and the whole UNIT "Is it the 70s or 80s?" debacle. It'd be like trying to square a circle... not that folk aint tried.

I like to look at it like this - best not think about it too hard or your brain will melt!

- And of course, if it's ALL canon what happens with the likes of Spare Parts and the other BF audios that Nu-Who has 'borrowed' from? I know the Doc likes to pretend he's a little forgetful at times *cough* age *cough*but even he'd get a bit of Deja Vu.

The Virgin Books people tried that with a guide in the 90s. It didn't all quite match up then, and that was before the BBC books, Big Finish audios and the 'new' series.

Wikipedia also has a bash.

The book Human Nature certainly isn't canon, since it's a seventh doctor story which was filmed as a tenth doctor two-part episode. And where does the new Jetix (or Disney XD, depending on when it's broadcast) K9 series fit in, since that K9 doesn't look like the ones from Doctor Who, K9 & Company, and The Sarah Jane Adventures?

Doesn't the BBC site already have this information about episodes? The Classic site at least. I think they list continuity errors too.

There's me thinking this was a challenge to see if anyone could sit through all the BBC1 globes in one sitting...

That is just an online reprinting of this.

I thought they didn't have the rights to use K9's image, hence why he was redesigned.

The new issue of DWM clears it all up.

They say that the new show's K9
Spoiler
is apparently one of the earlier Marks ('Mark I' I think) but that he will 'regenerate' into the newer model early on. Obviously the producers are trying to keep it canon but what the background story will be for his re-appearance is anyone's guess.

As for the rights, I'm assuming that the BBC gave them permission to tie the character in to the Whoniverse - quite possibly in exchange for the repeat appearances of the character of in Nu-Who?

IIRC when School Reunion first aired, RTD and the rest at Upper Boat said that they'd been given permission to use K9 for that story, but that the plans for the new K9 spin-off meant that repeat appearances had been limited by rights issues (hence the reason for K9's butt being used to plug a black-hole in much of the early SJAs).

I'm just guessing here, but I wouldn't be surprised if his subsequent repeat cameos in SJA and Who had been agreed in exchange for a "you scratch my back/I'll scratch yours" type of deal in the new show?
