Hi,

I'm looking into getting a Freesat+ PVR and was wondering what 'auto padding' does?

Can I use it in conjunction with Series Record (unlike on my 9150T?), as I'm getting weary of missing the ends of programs (Top Gear, F1 etc grrrrr!).

Would a Freesat+ box help resolve this, or am I best just sticking with my Freeview+ box?

Cheers.

Auto Padding works exactly like it does on your 9150T, except that it does also work with Series Link.

I don't use Auto-Padding; after some extensive testing against my 9300T, and another poster's 9200 & Vestel boxes, I can say the the Foxsat HDR Freesat box has a much more accurate implementation of Accurate Recording than the 9xxx range on Freeview. Obviously, it is just as reliant on the broadcasters coding up the EPG correctly, and sending the correct stop/start information, as the Freeview+ boxes.

I have both, and use one as the backup of the other. A number of times this strategy has saved me, where one box/platform didn't behave as expected, and the other one did.

Rgds.

Thanks for the prompt reply Les.

Just one quick question, why wouldn't you use auto padding if it's available on series record? Possibly due to space issues, or is there some kind of drawback to it?

Cheers.

ITV often cut off the ends of the program, but manual padding leads to many more conflicts and you miss the program if its delayed by more than 5 mins.

1. I record lots of back-to-back different channel progs (2 progs recording at the same time, followed by another 2 recording at the same time). Autopadding would create too many recording clashes for me.

2. Autopadding relies on the EPG being updated very promptly to cope with schedule moves/changes, because it pads its start from the EPG schedule start time. This does not always happen, yet the broadcaster will change the running status EITp/f data to indicate that current programme has ended, and the future programme has become current (started), so Accurate Recording picks this up.

As I said, I have done quite a bit of testing on this and, in my situation, AR is better for me. Others do use Autopadding successfully, and prefer it for their situations.

One other thing you ought to know is, that because of the way ITV have implemented HD as a red button stream on their ITV1 channel, Autopadding doesn't currently work on ITV HD.

Rgds.

How do you turn off the auto padding, I cannot see any settings for accurate recordings.

Thanks Mastanlem

Just set to 'Auto'. Without any 'early' minutes in start times and no 'late' minutes in end times
