If you have dogs , please please dont leave them in your car in this hot weather, this has happened before with people not realizing that a car becomes an oven with windows closed.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/...ds/8126382.stm

Some people just don't have the common sense they were born with.
Fairs fair, I've left the dogs in the car in the autumn/winter with the windows slighty open.
I mean... Hours on end in the baking heat ???

I think most people would have the common sense to realise that it is a stupid idea.

I don't understand why anyone wouldn't realise that it's dangerous to their pets to do this .

I wonder if some don't realise that the air-conditioning/climate control is no longer working once they've taken the ignition key out and left the vehicle?

Sounds crazy I know, but you never know with people sometimes .

Clearly not everyone does though Zoe, otherwise this form of animal cruelty would not keep happening .

I remember some years ago in the US this happening to two young kids, who died, when their father and his friend went hunting leaving them for hours, what a death.

Is there not a new law out that gives the RSPCA AND PDSA to get the police out and break into the cars and remove the dog ? Maybe its the SSPCA but im sure before they had to wait a few hours or something ,now they have more enforcement rights.

When I reported a dog in a car on a hot day to the RSPCA they didn't want to know.

years ago I phoned the RSPCA about a dog left out all day in a balcony in freezing cold weather and nothing was done, they told me on the phone that they had gone to the door once and no one was home, even though I phoned them many times the dog still howled all day out on the balcony.

I think there was some fly-on-the-wall RSPCA programme on TV not long ago where they got the police to break into a car to remove a dead dog and have another dog put down because the owner was elsewhere. Totally dispicable, anyone who leaves their dog in the car on a hot day is an idiot of the absolute highest order.

I know all about how useless at times the RSCPCA are but am sure this new policy has just came into goverment this year or last. maybe its just here in scotland.

I've never understood why the owners do this, it beggars belief it really does. What baffles me even more is when these muppets of owners, take their dog with them to an air show, and then leave them in the car, in sweltering conditions, coupled with the noise of fast jet planes overhead! WTF are they thinking!!!

I've seen that happen twice at Fairford air show! Despite many, many calls over the show radio broadcast, and numerous calls on the PA system, that the rspca, and the police are waiting for them at their car. Yet they never return to it, to let the dog out. Thankfully, on those two occasions the police have broken into the car, impounded it, and the dog has been taken away by the rspca.
Better still, they've announced what they've done to the owner over the pa system. At which there is a thunderous round of applause from the rest of the public for doing just that, and getting the dog the hell out of the car.

I've never understood though, why they've allowed dogs into the show in the first place, aside from assisting dogs, then no pooches should be allowed in, end of!!

Also be careful with conservatories.

Last year while I was at the vets with one of mine a dog was rushed in near death after being in a conservatory. Another had already died.

I was in Tesco yesterday and heard a dog barking and crying in a car. The windows were only down a couple of inches. I took reg number of car and the lady put a message out but no one came. I wrote a note telling them I have reported them to the rspca and that they were disgusting for leaving their dog. It was nearly 30 degrees here yesterday. I put it under the windscreen wiper.
I was so
People like that should not keep animals. Poor thing.

I have to say if I saw an animal that I considered in distress I would have no hesitation in smashing a window and stopping its suffering

There was a discussion about this on Jeremy Vine's show on Radio 2 today or yesterday. Apparently, one man saw a dog locked in a car with no windows open and so he smashed the window to get it out.

My pets are grumpy enough with the heat at the moment and have taken to laying in the bath tub to keep cool. I wouldn't dream of taking them ina car this weather.

I think people that leave dogs in cars can now be charged with neglect. There was a story a couple of years ago in the US about a woman leaving 4 new foundlands (dogs made for the cold) in a car / van for about 2 hours, all 4 died and she was jailed. But that was the US not here.

I hate to see dogs in cars, what ever the weather - even in winter the winter sun can heat them up quickly.

Yes heard this at breakfast. Very upsetting. What a way to die

I feel sure the officer responsible will be distraught. Unfortunately he / she has learnt a lesson at the dog's expense.

When I've taken my dog out the last few nights, she only walks for about 5 mins and is ready for a rest and heads for the shade. She has her proper walk after dark at the mo.

Poor dogs We go on about irresponsible owners, but you'd think the police would have more sense.

That's what we've been doing. They get a play on the beach and a swim in the sea first thing then a run late on when it's cooled down.

I was at the Cheshire Show last week and was surprised at the lack of water points for the dogs.

A tanoy announcement made for a dog left in a camper van. About 4 times this was made and informed the owner that the police were at the car. I don't know the outcome.

I have a long coat GSD and hate leaving him in the car, sometimes there is no option, but always leave the windows open and carry plenty of water.

I would rather take my dog with me but we do not have a very dog friendly country.
