It is very sad, as I have loved their service but I am moving house and as well as the hassle of having to cancel and having to have BT for 12 months before tiscali can take it, I have also been told they want to charge me £99 installation charge!!!!?

Erm, excuse me, I am already a customer, why on earth would I have to pay an installation charge?

Well, I am not paying it. And as much as I am sworn off sky, I have no option but to sign up to them.

Way to lose customers, tiscali. I have sang Tiscali TV's praises for the last year and enjoyed a very good service, but I will not taken the piss out of like that.

I see what you mean,as you would have to pay BT line rental for a year its the least Tiscali could to waive the installation fee.See if you could speak to a cs manager they might offer a reduced TV package for a few months.

If nothing else it'd be an interesting experiment in seeing how serious the new owners are

a) in retaining custom

&

b) in promoting the TV service (crosses fingers).

I'd give it a try - you've nowt to lose..

I can categorically confirm that they arent interested in retaining custom.

Have just spoke to a woman on the sales line who spoke to me like shit and said there is nothing she can do about the installation fee. When I told her I would go to sky instead she wasn't at all bothered and she ended the phonecall.

Well done tiscali. I would have been a triple play customer of yours for the forseeable future but now sky have me.

No wonder they nearly went bust.

Chris, I did PM you the number but after consultation with the missus we have gone ahead and ordered sky for the new property.

It was just too tempting, especially as they gave us £50 tesco vouchers to offset the cost of the sky HD box.

Thanks for your help anyway.

Good luck Ew - at least you'll have access to HD with Sky

And I must admit I've been tempted, watching Wimbledon on my Freeview CRT - but I can't afford it, that's that!

Yep I have got the HD pack and they are installing it all FREE on the day I move in.

Plus I am getting 20 MB unlimited broadband for 10 quid a month.

Much as I have slated sky for their business practices they have given me, as a potential customer, everything I have asked of them.

Tiscali don't give a toss. They don't even seem to have a retentions department. Well if the sales woman can tell me to "go ahead and go to sky" then I will. And I will never be back.

Sorry to hear your situation. The main difference for you is that you will be paying £46.50 per month (£16.50 all three not incl entertainment pack, £9 HD pack, £11 line rental, £10 BB max - each increasing by £1 in Aug) rather than the £19.99 you are paying now (comparing the two basic packages).

In this respect the £99 installation fee soon pays for itself by month 4.

I dont understand why you would have to pay BT for 12 months in your new pad? When I moved to a flat I had to have the phone line reconnected (line was there but hadnt been used for some time). I did have to connect to BT first, then HomeChoice (as was then) took over the line after 2 weeks - I didnt have to pay BT anything. BT tried telling me that I had to stay with them or pay them, but turned out to be a general line they use to ensure people dont switch and on digging deeper not true at all!

Just another thought - if BT are insisting you stick with them for 12 months, you wont be able to get the All 3 deal that SKYs LLU offers either, forcing you onto SKY Connect.

The £10 for 20GB is only available on a SKY LLU offering and will not be available to you. If you have access to this then you will have access to Tiscali TV as well.

Therefore £21 for entertainment mix, £11 line rental, Sky Connect Broadband £17 (40gb allowance) = £49 per month for the same as Tiscali at £19.99.

Hmmmmm! There is something not quite right here which you should look into!

I am stuck on SKY and wish I could be back with Tiscali!

No I am not stuck with BT now because sky are installing the line. I will have sky LLU.

I am paying £48 for HD, 3 mixes, 20 MB broadband, line rental and calls. It is cheaper than what I was paying to tiscali and BT together.

To be honest I dont trust Tiscali to activate the dead line. SKY I know will do it right and they are installing the TV on the day I move in.

I have a very expensive new HDTV, how long is it going to sit there showing SD with tiscali?

I did get a call from a tiscali sales person today trying to get me to cancel the sky order but I am afraid they are too late.

Yes I will be paying more than the tiscali deal but I will be getting more. More channels, HD, faster broadband.

I have never had my phone from tiscali because they said they couldn't add phone to the TV package, so I have been paying the exorbitant cost of BT and tiscali.

Thanks for the update. BT can play silly beggers in all of this, so sounds like you have it sorted.

Let me know how you get of with the HD pack. Just about to give my HD pack up as I dont get the movies and sports not sure it is worth it.

Have they also told you that all everything goes up in August? £1 for HD per month, £1 per mix and the BB up quite a bit from what I can gather - grrr. Then all up again 2.5% in January.

They said stuff goes up in september to me. It won't be a noticeable rise.

For the past year I have been paying 30 quid a month to BT on top of £24 to tiscali for BB and TV so the amount I am paying sky with the HD is actually a reduction.

I may just drop the 2 extra packs when the price goes up because you get all the HD channels regardless of packs any way so that will save a few quid.

There is also another advantage of me going to sky. There is an old dish on the roof of the new house and I have no idea what condition it is in. Getting this free install from sky means there will be a perfectly working dish if I decided to ditch sky in the future and use my freesat box.

As things stand if I keep tiscali in the new house then my only source of HD(and other channels I watch like men and motors) is freesat, but using that might cost me a new dish install anyway, so I really think sky is the way to go.

Plus the HD box is not costing me anything because they are giving me £50 tesco vouchers back. I am sure tiscali will still charge me £50 for the plus box even of they waive the install fee.

All ways round I am pretty happy. If I am not pleased with sky after a year then I will go back to tiscali and know that I have a perfectly working dish and dual LNB for freesat.
